Biking 48:00 [4] 12.8 mi (16.0 mph)
ahr:152 max:174

Biked from Calhoun to Hyland in Bloomington. Was a touch late so had to turn on the afterburners. Going over the hill near the ski jump at Hyland towards the end of the ride was tough on the singlespeed, especially with the snowtires still on.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:00:00 [2] ** 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
15c

Arrived at Hyland and put out controls for the white/yellow/orange courses. Temp was brisk but the sun was warm - good conditions.

Note

Volunteered at Jan's Place doing advanced orienteering and adventure racing skills for about 2-3 hours. Always fun to help other people learn more advanced O-technique, while at the same time burshing up on my own skills.

Orienteering race 10:16 [4] ** 1.95 km (5:16 / km)
15c

Sprint-O at Hyland - was a quick, fun course with many controls in such short distance. The route/control frequency definitely made us work on thought processes on future legs and technique for efficiently entering and exiting controls. Thanks Pete!

Orienteering warm up/down 30 [2] ** 2.0 mi (15 / mi)
8c

Control retrieval after course closing.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
ahr:128 max:156

Ran w/Mo around Cedar/Brownie and into Theo. Wore a light pack (~8lbs.) to get in the groove.

Soccer race 1:00:00 [4]

1st of 3 playoff games. We played the same team as last week due to the standings and came away with a tough 3-0 win. Was good to get the goose egg on our side against such a competitive team. Mo and I are bummed to miss next week's game due to travel to the LBL Challenge, but at least we'll be home for the last game in two weeks - hopefully the finals if our teammates can pull out the win without us.

Note
(rest day)

Taught the Orienteering 101 Class at the Maple Grove REI tonight. Was a bit nervous through most of the day, but after the presentation started everything went fine. Ian was there and had my back covered too. We had 50 people tonight and about 75 last week at Ian's talk at Bloomington REI - pretty good turnout!

Looking forward to the Orienteering Skills Clinic at Hyland on Saturday.

Soccer 35:00 [4]

Joined a new soccer league with a couple of older Grinnell guys that I know. The pace and tempo is a little slower, but still competitive. Since the other team no-shoed at our first game, the team that played before was willing to step in. We were tied at half time and played golden goal (sudden death) in the 2nd half to speed things up. I scored the winning goal off a volley with the left foot - felt pretty good, even if it wasn't in a real game.

This league is played on an turfed ice hockey rink, so the boards add a bit of sloppy play to the mix. The turf isn't great either, so I always fear the ever-present turf monster that wants to eat my ACL (knock on wood).

Running 1:00:00 [2] 3.5 mi (17:09 / mi)
ahr:92 max:133

Ran/Hiked with bro Brent in River Falls, WI. Pretty easy workout for me, but fun to get out with him and chat a bit. Run time was probably 15-20 min with 40-45 min of hike. Enjoyed the bluffs around Hoffman Park.

Running 2:46:00 [3] 14.0 mi (11:51 / mi)
ahr:129 max:156

LSR with Mo and Erl to Theo Golf Course and back. Took the squiggly routes to add on distance and hills in Wirth Park and we carried packs to help simulate racing. Good weather and good times.
