Biking race 3:20:00 [4] *** 21.0 mi (6.3 mph)
4c

MOUNTAIN BIKING 3 (CP33 - FINISH): The last biking leg is 20+ miles, and will include a series of gravel roads, jeep roads and plenty of single track trail. Being at the end of the race, it will no doubt be tough on teams. However, the reward will be crossing the finish line and getting a nice big baked potato covered in butter and sour cream! :)

Note

A HUGE congratulations to Eastern Mountain Sports for winning the inaugural LBL Challenge! They ran a FANTASTIC race and battled through some very tough competition and a challenging course. Once again, a job very well done!!

WEDALI was the first team to cross the finish line at 3:39 this morning. However, after further review of their passport, WEDALI unknowingly missed a checkpoint on the rogaine orienteering section of the race. There were quite a few checkpoints on that section, and it would be very easy to accidentally miss one of them. They were very disappointed, but it should be known that they ran a GREAT race!!

Official Top 5 Overall:

1. Eastern Mountain Sports
2. Alpine Shop
3. Proformance Physical Therapy
4. Mystik (CITGO) / Gray Goat
5. Indy Rootstock

Bummer.

Orienteering race (Trekking) 25:00 [3] ** 2.8 mi (8:56 / mi)
2c

(Split times are fairly accurate now - not all were available)

START: The start of the 24-Hour course is on Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive, near the Canal. Racers will be starting at 8AM with a small trekking leg.

TREK 1 (CP1 - CP2): Racers will start off with a 2.5 - 3 mile running leg to their bikes at the North Welcome Station. They will find one checkpoint along the way (CP1). The North Welcome Station is CP2.

Biking race 3:20:00 [3] *** 27.0 mi (8.1 mph)
7c

MOUNTAIN BIKING 1 (CP2 - CP8): Once they arrive at the North Welcome Station, they will get on their bikes and start a 27-28 mile mountain biking leg utilizing some of the fantastic single track trails that Land Between the Lakes has to offer. Teams will start by biking the Canal Loop trail in a counter-clockwise direction. The Canal Loop trail, especially on the Lake Barkley side, are smooth, hard-packed and very fast. After getting one checkpoint on the Canal Loop trail (CP3), they will continue on the trail until they come back to Race Headquarters (CP4). From Race H.Q., they will continue on a series of roads and trails (eventually getting on the North / South trail), until they reach Star Camp Wayside Area (CP6). From Star Camp, they will bike mostly gravel roads to their next Transition Area at Cravens Bay Lake Access.

Orienteering race (Trekking) 1:50:00 [3] *** 7.0 mi (15:43 / mi)
4c

TREK 2 (CP8 - CP12): From Cravens Bay Access, teams will start a 7 mile running / trekking leg. They will find three checkpoints along the way (CPs 9-11) until they arrive at Demumbers Bay Access (CP12).

Paddling race (Aluminum Canoe) 3:50:00 [4] ** 15.0 mi (15:20 / mi)
3c

PADDLE 1 (CP12 - CP15): Once teams arrive at Demumbers Access, teams will paddle about 15 miles on Lake Barkley, against a small current. Along the way, teams will find a couple of checkpoints and they will eventually end up back at Cravens Bay Access where they had dropped their bikes earlier in the race.

Biking race 1:30:00 [4] *** 10.0 mi (6.7 mph)
3c

MOUNTAIN BIKING 2 (CP15 - CP18): From Cravens Bay, teams will then start a quick 10 mile biking leg on mostly gravel and jeep roads to Hematite Lake.

Orienteering race (Trekking) 5:15:00 [3] **** 14.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
14c

TREK 3 (CP18 - CP33): This is the bread and butter of the race. The majority of the teams will be doing this rogaine-style orienteering leg at night, and some of the checkpoints can be difficult. Depending on route choices, and assuming you don't get lost, this leg will be around 13 - 14 miles. Once teams find *all* of the checkpoints, they will return to Hematite Lake and start the final biking leg of the race.

*Unfortunately, there were 15 CPs on this leg, and I forgot to have us go to one of them....

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] *** 6.04 km (11:35 / km)
16c

Pulled the tapes from the OTNT at Tierney's Woods. Pretty fun course - wish I could have been there for the real deal. Spent a while looking for the Gear Junkie's compass (no luck) and walked up most of the hills - trying to take it easy before the race this weekend. The transition to/from O-map and 24k topo made things interesting.

Soccer race 1:15:00 [4]

Played with the men's team to a 1-13 loss (and was 10 minutes late to the game). It wasn't pretty. Plus I got an elbow to the face that caused a bloody nose. We were definitely outmatched in most facets of play - they were definitely good shooters too.

Played the first half of the next game too, since that team was short and needed a player. We were tied 4-4 at half when I left - I scored two goals, so that was a small bit of redemption.
