paddling 4:00:00 intensity: (2:30:00 @3) + (1:30:00 @4)

The weather was calm in the morning and we should have paddled before breakfast, but we didn't. We enjoyed the calm and sunshine to have a great breakfast of bacon and eggs and a campfire.

Only to battle great swells paddling across the Shawanaga Inlet to the satelite islands off Hertberg Island. This was a beautiful area littered with many small islands and passage ways to explore. We spent about an hour venturing around and taking many pictures.

The paddle back across the inlet was quite a struggle but fantastic at the same time. My kayak is less flat than the girls and would not go in the direction that I wanted it to. The keel did not help much at all! The waves and winds kept pushing the stern and pointing me more south than west. The bonus to this is that as I got near the Twin Sisters island I could finally turn the kayak and surf the waves :)

From the Twin Sisters to Fairhead Island and Essex island was quite a workout but easier to steer since it was a more southernly direction. But your mind could not wander here as every bit of energy had to be spent keeping your nose pointed at least slightly into the swells.

We lunched on Essex Island and enjoyed Cyclegirl's excellent egg salad sandwiches and had a swim. The paddle back from here to Dillon's Cove marina was much more relaxed.

All-in-all a great adventure that we decided should be an annual thing.
