snow shoe (solo) 2:22:00 [3]

Big loop at Hardy Lake on my new Atlas Race shoes. Awesome!

The weather was crazy! Snow squall, strong wind -19 with the wind chill at -31. The east side of the lake was the worst of course. The trail completely blown and drifted over. So I mostly just cut the trail between what signs I could find.
Stopped at the little ruin for some hot tea and a half a salami sandwich (yummy)

On the west side of the loop, way in the woods, I was mostly out of the wind so I could shed a layer. Although the trees were creaking a lot and I started to sing to myself "If a tree falls (on me) in the forest..."

The last kilometer or so of the trail was rough. People had walked it without snowshoes and it was hard as a rock and uneven from all their deep footprints. Hard on the knees and ankles.

This was my second time snow shoeing the big loop. Both times the weather was inclement. I kind of like that "me against the elements" adventure.

The highway back home was treacherous.

The snow shoes are great! Nice and lightweight. love how they are spring loaded and move easily with your feet. The tapered tail lifts less snow so it saves on energy. Felt like I was just wearing my runners. Even ran some parts although that is awkward with poles and deep snow because I had to keep my arms up high ;)

Maybe not the best conditions for them with so much trail cutting, but I could notice the difference on the cut trail sections.

Very impressed!

Definitely felt a little less energetic after my snowshoe adventure.
