mountain bike 2:41:40 [3] 45.26 km (3:34 / km)

Great ride with Larry and Birdybird.

Parked the car just off 169 on Sniders Bay road. Biked over to Devil's Gap trail and there the crazy muddy adventure began. Followed the trail on to Clear lake road all the way to Torrance. From here we biked Southwood road past the Torrance Barrens untill the Old stone road trail.
Halfway through Larry missed the turn through the marsh trail and we lost sight of him so we weren't sure where he ended up. Birdybird and I took the trail back to Muldrew lake road. A crazy wet ride!

At the end of the trail we waited for Larry and I rode out to Pine tree road and North Muldrew lake road to see if he was waiting somewhere for us. I put on an extra 8 clicks but to no avail. On the route home he drove up in the car. He had headed home already.

What a great day!

Lake / River # 24 Muskoka River (south branch)

Debbie, Paula and I put in just east of Matthiasville on #118 and paddled north east. We tried to paddle all the way to wood lake via an off shoot but got stuck at the falls. This branch coming off the river was a gorgeous winding paddle through tall grasses and lillies. No place to pull on shore here for luch so we picniced in our kayaks. Water fights on the way back. Good times!

Lake # 23 Leonard lake with Birdybird.

After our last somewhat unsuccessful paddle on Big East lake the other night, Birdybird and I decided to paddle a little closer to home.We put in at the boat launch just north west of Bracebridge on 118.

It was a nice calm day on the water and we stopped for a swim off the point of someone's island. Birdybird had quite a funny struggle getting out of his kayak and I almost was no help to him because io was laughing so much. Good times!

Lake # 22 Georgian Bay

Larry, Debbie and Gary paddled around O'Donnell Point today on Georgian Bay.

It was supposed to be a group event but almost everyone cancelled. Then the forecast wasn't so great either. But boy did we luck out!!! What a fantasticly beautiful day!

We picked up three geo-caches while we were out there.

Should have wore sunscreen though. I guess i thought it would be mostly overcast. Man, am I fried!

Note

Lately I've been thinking when I achieve my goal, what will I do next year.

Well first of all, I will never run out of lakes to paddle up in this area. Might have to venture a little further, but still there's so much water.

Also, there are many lakes already of which I've only covered a part and some that I would like to paddle again. So I have to start keeping notes on something other than AP to make a list of the ones I'd like to visit again.

Plus a running list of the ones I've done would be handy to put in my wallet because when people ask me I usually can't remember which ones I've paddled a few weeks ago.

Note

Here's a list of all the lakes so far. The farthest away is Mary lake in Port Sydney approx. 40 minutes.

1 Severn R.
2 Gull L.
3 Loon L.
4 Tutrtle L.
5 Riley L.

Lake # 21 Spence Lake

After looking at the weather forecast for the weekend I decided last minute to fit another lake in to my week. Luckily, Sandi was up for a spur-of-the-minute paddle.

So we headed over to Muskoka Falls to paddle Spence Lake. I have been on this lake a few years ago for a training session with Debbie and Cheryl. But this night we did a bit more exploring and I've concluded, so far, that this is one of my favourite lakes. It has a few marshy areas and these floating islands that make it seem quite remote. It is very quiet with only a few cottages.

By 8 pm we made it to the far end of the lake where a river flows into it which I soo badly wanted to explore but due to time of day we decided to head back. I'll definitely come back to check out the river. I hear it ends at a little falls.

Just when we got the kayaks on the car, the rain started. What a peaceful end to a very hectic day.

p.s. I forgot my camera :(

Lake # 20 Three Mile lake

There are a few Three Mile lakes in the area. This one is located north east of Port Carling. Emily headed over to Hammel's bay where her brother has a cottage and put in there,

This is a great lake for a couple of reasons;
1 it has a lot of bays to explore and
2 the views of the grassy hills here and there are fantastic.

We found a somewhat remote grassy beach to have our lunch on and take some pictures (but my camera ran out of batteries so I'll have to steal her pictures.

Back at the cottage, Emily dumped her kayak getting out by the dock. Luckily the water is quite warm and we retrieved her sunglasses from the mucky bottom.

Lake # 19 Sunny lake

A long narrow lake off Doe lake road. The beginning of the lake is cluttered with cottages and the next 3/4 is located on the Jevins and Silver lakes conservation area and is completely isolated except for one property at the very end. Apparently you can hike up the cliffs on the south east shore and get a great view of Three Mile lake, although we didn't find that out till we visited the paddleshack afterwards.

The irony of our paddle, which I did with Emily btw, is that it rained for most of the hour on Sunny lake :)

Note

So there doesn't appear to be too much (or any) variety in my activities but our new horse is taking up a couple of hours a day. Between that and the paddling, my days seem to be filled. But I'm on target for my goal :)
