AM - To Engle-hood for breakfast with T, Jer, and MA
Running 2:25:00 [3]

PM - Station Flats with Zoolander. We were going to do the diamond and sulphur loops but somehow got on Tom Snow and ended up climbing up to moose mountain fire rd via packers trail and looped back towards sulphur. Legs are toast. More climb than we were suppose to do initially. All good.

Note: don't let Zoolander lead;) At least there were no waterfalls.

Friday Sep 26

Running 40:00 [2]
Lunch run with T. Felt good all things considered.

Thursday Sep 25

Cycling (MTB) 3:00:00 [3]
Rolly polly hills and crap load of rutted horse tracks. Ditched the bike on the second leg out to the furthest FCA site when it just got ridiculous.
Hiking 3:00:00 [2]
9 hrs total on the foot and bike for this one but will just log the slogs. Longest day out for one of these but we needed to hit two sites and this crazy ass one in the middle of nowhere. Biked, ditched the machines and hauled ass up a mountain valley. Got sun, rain and snow all in the same day. Lovely.

Weather Station

This bad boy hasn't been visited in 2-years. Still standing which is good. Started snowing on us while working. Freaky. Still not use to the mix bag of crap you can get around here makes planning tougher since you have to bring ever piece of gear imaginable when going on longer hauls - especially this time of the year.

Sunnyside Up loop. Short but intense - legs feeling extra sluggish uphill.

Sunday Sep 21

Running 1:15:00 [3]

Good pace on the Douglas-Bow loop. Spinning the tired legs before the rain starts falling.

Friday Sep 19

Running (commute) 40:00 [2]

Felt tired to bike this morning so decided to run home today instead. Legs pretty heavy and the added weight of the pack didn't help.

Cycling (MTB) 3:00:00 [3]
Nice rolling terrain with some tough climbs and single and double track stuff. Muddy to boot in sections! Dirty on the car ride home.

Another work related FCA field day. Down in the Cataract Creek area on Cat Creek knocking off 2-sites. Can't recall the name of the Cirque right now but was a brilliant side trip for fun scrambling up the side of it. Bear central - tracks and crap. T-dub let me lead all the way on the bike sections. Thanks kiddo, glad to know I'm the bait.

Stupid Branch!

Stupid branch that I impaled myself on. Bleeding like a mofo from the top of my head. Took out a big piece of my scalp. Great start to the day.

Destination

Cirque

Cirque! A really pretty one too. Have to stitch the the rest together to get the full scale.

T-Dub

The T-dub. All her work but I get to play with her when they let me out of the office. Sweet job.

In the Shadow

Another tough day at the office. Actually it was, but worth the views from the cirque with the added few hundred meters more of climb from the last FCA site down below.

Tuesday Sep 16

Cycling (commute) 40:00 [2]
Pretty tired today.

Monday Sep 15

Note
On the way down we saw these kids with a golf club going up Rundle. I asked what they were doing and they told me to youtube this. This video is on Rundle, I laughed when told me the story and they wanted to try it. The video is classic.

Mt. Rundle. Last year got rained/snow on so didn't summit and the Strackersons wanted to knock this one off this year. Getting late in the year because the recent snow might be a little dodgy. Anyway M&D made it up to the Dragon's Back before the fear of heights got the best of D. They told me to push through and I did (felt bad though cause they couldn't join me). Really sketchy though getting to the true summit in the snow and coming back down in it. One wrong move and you would have been gonzo!

Poor FCA monitoring site

Poor FCA site at a 45 degree angle. Did a little bit of work for the climate crew. Sick bastard whomever set that one up.

The Summit

Towards the true summit with Mike a guy I met going up by myself. Freaked him out when I was downloading data on a Palm from the monitoring station. Who carries a PDA up a mountain? Helped me out which was cool. I admit I was freaked getting up to it. The snow was pretty slippery and you had to do a bit of scrambling. Rode my ass down on the way back.

Field work for the FCA (Foothill Climate Array) with the T-dub. Fast paced out and back knocking off a few sites. Out in Burstall Pass through Peter Loughheed into Banff National. Close to 30km day of hiking, biking, and bushwhacking. Gorgeous day however quite a bit of snow (especially higher up) compared to last year when I did the hike to the pass around the same time.

Bike out and back on the trail. Not advisable to carry a 4 foot metal pole and bike downhill fast. Almost killed myself.

Seven Summit 26K trail run in Rossland BC. Most fun race I've ever ran. Went in with a relaxed attitude just to have fun, take pictures and chat along the way. I've realized that its more fun to meet people and enjoy the ride rather than bust a nut on a course these days. The morning started off ridiculously foggy but on the shuttle ride up to the Nancy Greene base I realized how low we were in a valley and suddenly we're over the cloud line - sunny as hell and conditions were nice.

The run starts off with a killer 7k and 700m of climb to the top of Nancy. After that it was all ridge running and downhill at that! One big bump in the middle which hurt after mashing the quads for so many kms then all down again to the finish at Red Resort. Along the way befriended a couple from Vancity, a native Torontonian, and chatted away with a dude from Bozeman who was hurting so I stuck with him for moral support to get him through and even met LR the orienteer and his buddies from Rossland. Great event, booze and burgers at the finish and such a relaxed atmosphere. As they say, its Beautiful BC.

Note
Last minute decision. Heading to Rossland BC tomorrow morning and racing the Seven Summit Race on Saturday. Going to be a shitty 7hr solo drive but hopefully worth it from what I've heard. The things you do while sitting at your desk at work;) Plus I'm not in the mood to go to work tomorrow...even better excuse to bugger off and have an extended weekend.

FYI: They have a hill called the Nancy Green. I suspect much larger than the Chedoke version from the elevation profile.
C • Good luck dude! 6

Crazy day in the working world. Good hard de-stress run doing the Sunnyside Up Loop. Needed it after being couped up for the past few days due to craptastic weather. I ain't pulling out no tights this early in the year.
