Saturday Aug 19 | ||
| Running race 3:30:00 [4] | ||
| ahr:180 shoes: Brooks Cascadia (Red) | ||
| ITT (32K). Paced through the first bit with SuperWes till he dropped me on a hill then tagged along with a with a Western State 100 miler guy at my pace. At the turn around at Steeles he just picked it up and dropped me - scary, i guess he was taking the first half slow! Paced slowed down considerably in the last stretch for various reasons.
Longest and toughest race i have ever done to date due to the technical nature and long climbs in the back section. Basically boils down to how much can you maintain your tolerance to that amount of thrashing on your body on a course of that nature. Despite hydrating, gels, stopping at every aid station fueling up, and carb loading a few days before i ended up cramping with about 1k to the finish after heaving my whole body over a log. Both calves went and haven't felt that much pain since my first RTH. Bit the bullet after a few minutes and just ran. Tarno says its the on your toes motionon that type of terrain which contracts your calves which likely leads/aids to the cramping. Learned something new! SuperWes, TVP and Hastytime also felt the internal combustion so i wasn't alone. Finished in 3:31.38 just a minute over what i wanted to, and considering the implosion, i'm happy:) Congrats to my boys, looking good as always. Likely my last big race of the season and hard training (Albion 5peaks if i'm around). Need to focus on other things right now and just rest the body. Vacation in New Orleans next week:)

| Running 1:00:00 [3] | ||

Tuesday Aug 15 | ||
| Cycling 1:05:00 [2] | ||
| ahr:154 shoes: Montrail HR | ||
| Reverse loop of the other day except strong cross and head winds on the way back. | ||
Monday Aug 14 | ||
| Running tempo 40:00 [4] | ||
| shoes: Montrail Highlander | ||
| Hard 40 in the DV. Got in late and wanted to get it done fast due to the setting sun. Deer count 3, frog count 3. Eerie fog in the valley made it for a interesting run combined with the dark. | ||
Sunday Aug 13 | ||
| Cycling 1:05:00 [2] | ||
| ahr:158 shoes: Montrail HR | ||
| Glancaster-Dickenson-Nebo-Twenty and back. Nice cool morning ride and decent roads. | ||
Saturday Aug 12 | ||
| Running race 1:00:00 [5] | ||
| ahr:188 shoes: Brooks Cascadia (Red) | ||
| 5Peaks Mono Cliffs. Race went well from start to finish, decided to pace myself at the start and felt better than past races when i went out too hard. Paced with one of the series leading girls throughout (too bad she was 10-15 yrs older than me;). Towards the end was a hairy multiple switch back (insane crazy!) and the race was on with the train i was in. I out sprinted everyone except this older lady (crap she was fast) and i mean we were sprinting Donovan style. Managed to hold off one of the guys i've been jostling through the series with. That felt good;)
Nosnhoj was freaky out there with a 51:00 time, baby (Owen is cute!) and little training at all! I was about 57:00. Also saw the boys, I salute you "38 yrs old, never kissed a girl"
| C • Sorry I missed it 10 | ||
| Note | ||
| COC - Terrain is similar to parts of the Dundas Valley, woods are open however lots of maple underbrush from what i can see. Curious to see what the courses are going to be like due to the underbrush...not sure what its like deeper in the woods. Not racing though. | ||
Friday Aug 11 | ||
| Cycling 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| ahr:149 shoes: Montrail HR | ||
| Easy out and back from Westdale to down York to Rock Chapel and down HWY 8. Had to drop by the lab and drop off some stuff at Hammer's place. Open house day at Mac, kids are looking so young coming into university these days. | ||

Tuesday Aug 8 | ||
| Running tempo 45:00 [3] | ||
| ahr:175 shoes: Brooks Cascadia (Red) | ||
| After about 7hrs in the car coming back from the cottage decided to go for a run on the old stompin grounds to get the pistons moving
Tempo in the South Shore Trails with TVP and Greta. The old man is already on my butt and pushed me hard. Felt great considering the relaxing weekend. Think i needed the break.
| C • Cool to see you on attack poin... 5 | ||
Monday Aug 7 | ||
| Paddling 2:00:00 [1] | ||
| Canoing in Temagami from the north eastern arm into iceland lake. A gruelling 500m portage and some mini ones but some nice paddling. Would have liked to gone farther but my brother is a 'virgin' paddler and first time 'portager' so i think i gave him too much to handle;) Funny since he's owned the canoe for 2-years. Time out longer than logged. | ||
| C • choppin' wood 2 | ||
Sunday Aug 6 | ||
| Note | ||
| Ended up brush hauling and chainsawing for most of the day till beer-thirty time. Wind damage on the island from a recent storm had taken down a lot trees. Might have to come back and help clear more with larger chain saws. This should be a sport, considering the amount of wood i've chopped in the past week. | ||
Saturday Aug 5 | ||
| Paddling 30:00 [1] | ||
| Zipping around the island checking out the wind storm damage | ||
Friday Aug 4 | ||
| Note | ||
| I figure i'll try to get back into logging on AP. If adventurous, might backlog the summer training due to the time on my hands these days.
One more run this week, then off to the cottage tomorrow till Tuesday. Have to finish off some stuff around Westdale then return to the mountain for some altitude training;)
| C • Thesis all done? 15 | ||
