Tuesday Jul 31

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Started off sluggish since i knew i was tired but 1/4 thru got some life and picked it up. 3-4 on the I scale. Some river, stairs, escarpment, hills. All in a days work. Finally got someone to try Ethiopian with me tonight! Pretty stoked about that.
C • Is that a new position? 2

Monday Jul 30

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Wanted to get a run in before these severe t-storms rolled in. Was getting pretty dark in the area but rolled the dice hoping not to get caught in it. Luckily managed to out run it since it started to pour once i got home! Cagampan 1, Weather 0. Felt great running, wish i could have made it a longer one.
C • dude, good to see you're still... 2

Sunday Jul 29

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]
Bow-Nose Hill Creek Pathways then took cycling routes through the city home. Got lost in Beddington Hills where every street in all these massive communities have to be named Bed-something and another. That and they were paving at 8:30 in the morning on Sun. Time to check out the Heartland Cafe down the street.

Friday Jul 27

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Bow-Crowchild route. Felt like the same effort on Tuesday but knocked off some serious time. Must mean morning runs are probably not so good for me right when I wake up. Need caffine first.

Thursday Jul 26

Cycling 45:00 [3]
I'll give'er a 3. Cruised out pretty fast and at a good clip, coming back was painful on the legs since it was really windy. Calgary Folkfest happening on the Island. No one I really wanted to see except City and Colour so didn't bother with trying to get tickets.

Wednesday Jul 25

Running 20:00 [1]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Running to the FWOC meet up the street with Pither.
Orienteering 13:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Sprint Warmup at CPark. Trying to work out the food baby since i stuffed some food down prior to the event.
Orienteering 16:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Sprint. Tried to pick this one up a notch but got confused in a few areas due to the mapping. A few vegetation areas were missing. Legs a bit fatigued at the end but probably cause I haven't done that much speed in a very long time. Fun time though.

Later was at markg's place with Pither watching the events of the TDF. Shocking news. Good luck boys at the COCs! And Pither, I'm still laughing about the MC;)

Tuesday Jul 24

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Bow-Crowchild. 6AM run since its damn hot in the evening. Still was 27C after 10PM last night. Too much day time heating here due to the long hours of sun.

Sunday Jul 22

Cycling 45:00 [2]
Easy out and back on the Bow. Took up some sun earlier in the day at the Sun and Salsa Festival down the street down in Kensington. Tried a plethora of salsa. Reminded me of the Seinfeld conversation regarding the pronunciation of salsa. After the 20 or so samples of different salsas, i had to throw up the white flag. Hoping that Montezuma doesn't have his revenge on me;)

Interesting thing that happened. Someone yelled at me Mohammad Jihadi at me as i passed them. Umm...last time i checked I wasn't devoted to any particular religion. First sign of blatant ignorance in the city. Hmm...maybe that's why i alway get the thorough check at the airport. America F$%@ Yeah!

Saturday Jul 21

Hiking 1:30:00 [2]
On a whim Friday night, Sarah M and I decided to try to get in a day hike at Forgetmenot Ridge SW of Bragg Creek. I was pretty intimidated by the size of this ridge at first and the climb to get up was almost pure straight up for most of the climb up on scree, rock and a variety of other mixtures. Took a good 1.5hr or so to just crest at a decent pace but was worth it once you could ridge hike along the top and view the beginning of the actual Rockies. Went along as far as we could before turning back since we started late in the day, hence didn't want to be stuck coming down at dusk. Total time just over 4-hrs of total hiking. Logging the climb time at lower intensity but it was some tough work. Somewhere between 500-600m of vertical climb with a max altitude of around 2100-2200m I'm guessing.

Thursday Jul 19

MTB 45:00 [2]
Early Thai dinner and some gelato. Realized it was actually a really cool evening and was itching to ride so decided to go on a stuffed stomach. On the way back I got stuck behind a train and noticed that there was a dirt trail running parallel to the tracks so decided to take it and wander a bit. I think it was part of the Douglas Fir trail (which is not for biking) and when i was riding up the Bow escarpment upshifting to the granny gear the chain decided to go over the back rings into the hub. Spent a good 5-10 min trying to pry it loose (thought i might have to walk home since it was that jammed, would have been a long walk). Gearing was off so that's why it went over the back ring. I better take it in for a complete overhaul in the near future. Got eaten by moskies in that short stop. Have some pretty big bites to show.

Wednesday Jul 18

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Mexican food and sangria with the Strackersons the night before so didn't get out like i wanted to yesterday.

Bow-Crowchild-Bow-Prince's Island-Sunnyside/Rosedale. Decided to hit the big hill which is like Ron Lowery's nasty brother! Ran into Clarke again and I'm 99% sure I ran past Kelly Dietrich on the Bow (university acquaintance).

Calve still tight. Having a whole right leg problem in general.

Monday Jul 16

Cycling 40:00 [2]
After work ride to stretch out the legs. Rt calve really tight from the terrain running yesterday. Intensity a 3-4 out playing cat and mouse with a spicy female commuter. I really think people use commuting as intensity work since they are flying on the paths. Just as much traffic on the paths as at rush hour on the roads at times. Pretty neat to see that many commuters either biking, running (with packs) or rollerblading.

Sunday Jul 15

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2 (Lime)
Bow Valley Provincial doing a follow John exercise with markg. Struggled with the map at the first but got more comfortable going through. Very subtle terrain in general and tough to figure out at times. Eventually found Pither running around late because of my best friends the Czech's. Oh yes you know what i'm talking about kids. Altitude a big factor today with the intense sun! Running was a chore.
Orienteering 1:00:00 [1]

Was pretty pooched by this time and decided to focus more at Mt. Laurie. Just couldn't make heads or tails of that map. Very intricate and detailed compared to BVP. Couldn't get into it and just tried to pick off various controls. Hard to relocate in there. Key word of the day: Pooched

Ended up at the Drake in Canmore eating and drinking with markg and Pither and met a few other FWOC personal. Also got to watch the first mountain stage of the Tour at Mark's place. Cheers for that!

Saturday Jul 14

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
Up early so decided to go for a long ride and explore more paths. Normal Bow route plus the Nose Creek path system up to the Country Hills area.
C • sunday 4
Note
Scored a Stampede Breakfast this morning after the ride. Was in the apartment and heard from all the ruckus across the street (i.e. country music and MC) that they were giving out free food. Plus met Ms. Salsa 2006 parading around. Shawinnnnng! Goal should be to get free breakfast next year for 10 days straight during stampede.

Thursday Jul 12

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Internet guy came nice and early so had time to go for a run. Good clip but the valley escarpment climb gave it to me.

Randomness alert: As I was about to go into my apartment when a lovely lady was walking towards me. Happened to be Sarah C (undergrad friend)! She was coming from 'bootcamp' in Eau Claire and randomly lives a few blocks down (well till the end of the month anyways). What are the chances of that! Gotta love this city.

Wednesday Jul 11

Note
In the field for the afternoon. Nose hill is a big ass park and climbing those hills is some work. Hauling buckets of rocks for a lab course. That sucked ass...most strength training i've done all year on the pipes.

Rented Bon Cop Bad Cop. Hammer, you'd really like that flick due to the French-Canadian nature. "Merde de sh*t de merde de f*** de TABERNAC!" Great Canadian Film.

Tuesday Jul 10

Cycling 45:00 [3]
In the big ring trying to keep up with a female version of Lance all decked out in US Postal Service gear. Good pace.

Monday Jul 9

Running 40:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Easy run Sunnyside-Rosedale-SAIT. SAIT has a nice campus with a fabulous Parliament like building. Wasn't feeling it at the beginning but felt good after getting going.

Sunday Jul 8

Cycling 40:00 [2]
Spin around the Bow

Saturday Jul 7

Note
Fri - The Nev-Monster came down for some Stampede action and drinking Friday night. Wandered the city on Friday and contemplated dropping into Cowboys as Zoolander suggested, however I wasn't dressed as a cowgirl so that wouldn't fly. Ended up being a late night with some drinking involved.

Sat - Post friday Bender always leads to a greasy spoon experience. And conveniently located around the corner from my place is a excellent one. Ended up at Stampede in the afternoon experiencing the atmosphere and sights. Wasn't feeling so hot so bailed when Nev decided to sport the assless chaps. But apparently the chuckwagon races were excellent from what the Nev-ster recounted.

Sun - Exploring Stephen Ave. in the morning with Nev. Ended up at MEC (which is way too close to me <15 min). Thankfully only bought a cycling jersey and shorts at Coast Mountain. Dangerous place for toys.

Friday Jul 6

Running 35:00 [3]
6AM run since it was really cool out. Didn't feel spectacular but was a nice morning. Not sure if i'll get use to all the paved paths in this city. Better for biking than running.
Note
LRT was overly packed southbound into the city due to the Stampede Parade - alarming number of cowboy hats this morning! While I would have liked to gone for interest, didn't think a no show at a welcome new guy/goodbye other guy party at 11AM would go over well.

Thursday Jul 5

Note
Chilli cookoff day at the university for Stampede. Pretty tasty. Decided it was too hot for a pavement pounding session today. Proably could have cooked eggs on the asphalt till 10PM last night. Sweatfest in the apartment.

Wednesday Jul 4

Cycling 40:00 [2]
Out and back on the Bow. Was crusing on the way out, then realized that i had a tailwind when i turned around. Got smoked by a couple of clydesdales. Must blast my puny legs like Zoolander.

Tuesday Jul 3

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Exploring around Sunnyside. Some serious hills to climb. Guess i know where i'll be hill training in the future.

Monday Jul 2

MTB 1:00:00 [2]
Checking if the MTB survived shipping. Went to Vancouver first before coming to Calgary. Visited a constructed wetland on Prince's Island Park, yeah i know i'm wetland gay.

Sunday Jul 1

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green)
Run on the Bow. Too bad all the trails in the city have to be paved. A lot of athletic (and attractive) people in this city. Still having some foot problems, will have to get that checked out in the next few months.
