| Edworthy Park Score-O. Started off slow since I haven't run in while being sicky and all. Once i got going and into a groove I felt pretty decent by the end and was working hard. Poor decision making on some controls and probably had one of the harder routes of most people. Missed 2 controls due to the time, definately doable to get all but bad route choice/planned route. 1min to spare. Learned something new. Dark Olive is out of bounds. Miss my hatch marks from back home;) | ||

| Cycling 45:00 [2] | ||
| Light ride. Starting to get chilly out here in the evenings. | ||
| Note | ||
| Wes you'll find this amusing. I was dropping something off at the mall and this man approaches me (mind you i'm blasting music in the earphones) so he mumbles, "Are you from the Philippines?". I'm like yeah sort of. Hands me his business card saying he has work available (Subway). I said that I was employed and he told me to tell my friends about it. WTF? A) Like i would have the connections to the immigrant population B) Good guess on the nationality, i'll give him credit for that, but come on a little presumptuous you think? C) WTF! D) Seriously, I don't make this stuff up! | ||

| Went to the on campus walk-in. Likely another week of nothing. Gotta recover from whatever I have. Doctor said to ride it out. Good times. | ||

| Hiking 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| Mt. Rundel Attempt with Strackersons. Crazy hike. This bad ass is a slogging up a mountain for sure. Once you start the ascent it is a just a pure drag your ass up the mountain with no real reprieve. Basically made it up close to half the Dragon's Backs (3/4 of the hike ~2300-2500m) before deciding to pack it in. Started to rain and hail off and on plus the high wind factor was pretty strong today. We were pondering whether it was worth it for a summit attempt and despite my real wanting to do it (would have been doable) concensus was to head back down. Considering I think it was the Strackerson's first bagging trip i think it was a good call. No accident policy in effect. R&C stop per usual however Rundel was laughing at us. I'll be back to get you, that i promise;) Nev, definately need those poles back, going to be hurting tomorrow!
Hope to make it out for some dragon boat races tomorrow but the weather is looking mighty sketchy for riding out on the bicyclette. 10C and rainy. Fall has started early here lately.

| Still feeling not 100%. Hope next week brings better days. Definately tired today but considering its probably reasonable. Some tummy troubles still. | ||

| Cycling 40:00 [2] | ||
| Note | ||
| Been a bit sick the past couple of days. Not sure what it is but was totally fatigued the past 2 days. Felt off during the hike so probably was coming down with something. 12hrs of sleep last night seemed to help. Going to keep it very light the rest of the week with cycling and just go on how i feel. | ||
Monday Aug 20 | ||
| Note | ||
| BSR 4:5. Almost a perfect ratio. I think the late evening Americano won over my efforts to dull the effects with beer. Horrible sleep, was up in the middle of the nite and now wanting to go back to sleep. | ||
| C • don't!!! 2 | ||
Sunday Aug 19 | ||
| Hiking 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Lillian Lake/Galatea Lakes hike with Mick, LJ, and Clarke. Probably around 3.5hrs of total hiking time. Galatea Lake was impressively gorgeous due to the cool blue colour. Worth the walk up to see it.
Pither and Nicki ran Ribbon Creek and met up with me after for some farewell celebratory drinks and food for the Manitoba bound boy. Crazy stories of thier back country adventures which held a captive audience all night.
Saturday Aug 18 | ||
| Running 2:00:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green) | ||
| Wanted to try a 2hr and got one. Bow out to the Douglas Fir Trail to Edworthy Park and back to Sunnyside/Rosedale. Felt awesome to get on some real trail however there were too many man made stairs since its a city hiking trail so couldn't get quite into the flow of things there. Other than that, mostly path beaten grass the rest of the way. Decent loop.
Out with Mick, LJ and Clarke last nite watching some fireworks at this odd diversity festival.

| Note | ||
| Grabbing a drink at the student centre and walked past and smiled at Cindy Klassen - was thinking of giving the wink and the gun but her big speed skating boys probably would have blasted me. They were chatting about wattage, oh skating geeks;) | ||
| Cycling 45:00 [2] | ||
| Didn't think i'd be able to get a ride in. The acting head called up at 3:30 and ordered me to end work early and go to the grad pub for drinks for StrackAttacks birthday. Sweet.
Bow-loop. Stopped at the park to take in some Shakespeare in the Park. Interesting take on MacBeth.

| Cycling 2:10:00 [2] | ||
| South to the Glenmore Reservoir and around. Neat little area. Elbow Pathway system home meandering through neighbourhoods and the river valley. Lost on a detour route that was ill marked and had to do a hike-a-bike to get back on the paths. Nice morning to explore the city at an easy pace. Hammies tight from yesterday. This afternoon going to stuff my face at the Taste of Calgary with the Strackersons. | ||

| 5Peaks Sundre 12K. Haven't run a race since RTH so this was tough to get back into race groove. Started off slow and worked up my pace to a good comfortable hard run. Unfortunately all grass at the race but i'll take the woods time anyday living in the concrete jungle. Just stayed in a good rhythm and pushed hard on the downhills and flatter sections and consistent on the hills. Out sprinted a dude at the end because i couldn't let him get infront of me, couldn't give him that satisfaction. Finished in 45th which is smiliar my Ontario performances. So happy about that! Thought I would get blasted here.
Congrats to Nicki (2nd overall age), Bena (3rd age group) and to Pither with a killer performance taking 1st overall (in a fairly tight race) at a incredible pace of 3:37K in rolling terrain. Shit dude, you're fast!! Awesome event with friends!!

| Orienteering Middle B-Meet near Bragg Creek. Faired better at this one then other events but just wanted to focus on the terrain. So subtle that its disturbing. A little frustrating at times but splits were less in the last quarter of the controls where i started to understand things much better. Ran-walked-got lost at an easy pace. Good way to end off a racing packed day.
Again ended up at the Rose&Crown for beers and food. Unfortunately we had to deal with some rowdy assholes.

| Hammer, you would really like this prof Shawn Marshall. He's a pretty competitive runner/trail racer. I knew of him from the faculty but never met him in the department. Funny i meet him at a race with some of his students! Didnt' realize the guy was a hardcore runner. Cool to have an atheltic prof in the department. Climate-change sea ice-istope type of field. | ||

| Cycling 40:00 [2] | ||
| Easy ride. Really cool out so was dressed warmed. Suppose to get to 4C tonite with frost warnings outside of the city. Seen people with wool overcoats and winter weight puff down. Come on people, not winter yet. | ||

| Running 30:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Brooks Axiom 2 (Green) | ||
| Slow to start but really went at it in the second half trying to mimick a comfortable race pace for Sat. Going to hurt for sure. Taped up the wicked blister I got on the hike with bandaids and duct tape. Should work for an hour or so race I hope. It was really sensitive yesterday so decided to stay off of it. | ||

| Tired. Really damn tired this morning. Upper quads are screaming at me walking up stairs. I've turned into a princess. | ||

| Cycling 40:00 [2] | ||
| Really windy on the way out so decided to just put it in high gear and mash my way to my turn around. Cruised on the way home at a very leisurely pace.
Pither is a bad influence and signed up for my first race of the season. 5peaks Sundre. Should hurt like hell i'm reckoning. So ill prepared for this.
Monday Aug 6 | ||
| Hiking 1:30:00 [3] | ||
| Don't even know how to log this one so I don't overly inflate things, but tough work to get to the top since it was up, up and up. Climbed and summited Cascade in Banff with Nicki, Pither and BJ. Amazing day, spectacular climb, great company and just awesome views. Haven't been that nervous coming down anything like that off that summit, and employed the ass slide for a good portion of it. No need to die yet. Need to put more time on the scree. About 7hrs from bottom to top and back. Thanks Nik for the pick up/drop off.
Ended up at the Rose&Crown for beers and food. Brought back funny memories of a conference after party there last year. Also had a great view of Cascade and just thought, wow that's high and pretty neat to say i've bagged that.

| Easy ride. Morning had to wait around for my couch to arrive and helped Dave move his shed this afternoon. Grabbed lunch in Eau Claire on the patio for bugers and beer. Tasty. | ||

| Was reading the paper for the first time in a few weeks. Front headline "Stelmach tells other provinces don't mess with Alberta" in terms of climate change policy. Ah yes...oil and gas and good old Alberta spirit! Guess not much has changed in few weeks.
Someone asked me recently, why don't you work for the oil industry since you have the background. Sure, if I want to sell my soul to the devil. Spent 2-years restoring impacted areas related to climate change. I'm not going help dig up stuff nor do i want part in an industry and spin offs that likely does the bare minimum to get assessments passed. Could probably make a shit load of money but at the end of the day i like to sleep well and would rather be poor and happy. On another note, house prices rising still here over an average of 500K. Rent is still soaring. If this keeps up i'll be living in a box in a year. This city has to cool off one of these days. Its nuts!

| Tried to go as fast as my body would allow. Botched the 2nd control and hesitant within the residences (~1 min total in errors). Otherwise was smooth the rest of the way. Markg had the top time to beat with 12 and change. I was 15 and change. Didnt' know it was NA sprint points event.
In general, I don't have the step like I use to and the right leg is definately feeling it. Went to the running injury clinic and will probably sign up for an assessment but waiting time is quite backed up;(
