What an incredible weekend. Ever since I got here I wanted to do this run in Jasper for some reason or another. Moreover, I've never been to Jasper till now. Last month I convinced my friends Tara and her husband Jeremy to join me on this adventure on the Skyline trail. The Skyline is rated a 3-day backpacking route but after hearing that its very runnable I knew this would be the run that would be my first marathon and close to my first ultra event. Starting at the south terminus at Maligne Lake via shuttle we ran between 45-50km in towards Jasper where we dropped off the car. All in all the run was spectacular. The first 30K went great went through some lows with some cramp action (despite large amounts of electrolytes consumed) in the last bit where a little walk-run had to be done. About 1500m of climb over the whole distance with an average altitude of just under 2000m! Pretty sweet.
We started on the right side of the Maligne Range towards Jasper to the left (bottom part of the range). You can sort of see the yellow line of the Skyline Trail on the model.
Right at the start after being dropped off via shuttle. Tara, Jeremy, Me.

T on the other side. One of the toughest chicks I've ever met. Girl can run. Typical running conditions through alpine
View of the Notch. The trail goes right up the middle of that bitch.
Lunch at Shovel pass lodge almost midway. Generally they don't serve to non guests but I pulled some strings with the owner early in the week to get this done so we wouldn't have to carry a lot of food. Yummy spread and I pigged out! Only bad part was this was 1.2k below the Notch in a valley. Tough slog right after lunch to just get back up to the base of the climb.
Jeremy and I at the top of the Notch - 2480m!
Tara & Jeremy...the little specs on the ridge
This is why the trail is called Skyline. ~10K of ridge running!
Trail running heaven. Ridges on the top and makes it way down into the valley.
Post-run glacial bath after a 9k downhill fire road quad mash! Damn cold but refreshing.

| Bow-Douglas-Edworthy and back along the bow. Sluggish first 30 min. Felt better on the way back. Perfect running weather today. Overcast and cool. Keeping it easy this week. | ||
