AMERICAN RIVER 50 MILE ENDURANCE RUN

8:53:55 is a PR by 25 minutes. Pretty good for me considering my training could have been better leading into the race. Work commitments interupted my training slightly for the 2 weeks leading up to race day. I ran fairly smart keeping my heart rate between 135 and 145 all the way to Beals Pt. (mile 27) and left there feeling good and optimistic. What a difference. I was a little worried with the shoe choice being that the Racer ST's are pretty minimal at about 10 oz, but they really worked well throughout. No issues at all with my feet...no blisters or even sore spots-basically perfect.

I ate continuously (pbj's, bananas, fig newtons, pretzels and hammer gels) and that also made a big difference in helping to keep my stomach on track.

All in all, a good day and I think I learned a lot from this one.
