Orienteering race (British) 50:38 [3] 5.5 km (9:12 / km)

One of my worst runs in a while. I couldn't get into it really and i was too hesitant & didn't have enough confidence in myself.
1)Was a bit hesitant but ran on my line and it went well
2)Was hesitant due to the change in terrain
3)Slowed down at clearing ready for it, but then just didn't see the control and went past it, had to fully stop to sort myself out.
6)Should have picked up a ride but didn't. Ended up a bit high
7)Didn't choose a route fast enough so I started going on one and then changed my mind to do the other. Then saw a diff control and even though I knew it was early went to check :S
8)DISASTER, i was slightly off my bearing then I saw a control that I thought could have been mine. Wasn't mine so then stupidly thought i was too left and ran and went to number 9 so had to go back to 8
13)Was too low down and couldn't see it even though I knew it was there got a bit confused.

2 Positives about my run:
1)Number 5 I was confident and did it well.

PE (Basketball) 50:00 [3]

Worked on defence stuff, put also played like it & stuff. It was a pretty tiring lesson but of course my team was rubbish! Which is alright but Amy gets in such moods cos we loose! Its just cos Harriet is so.. overwhelming! But yer it was lots of running about playing games and practising getting balls off of people.

Running (Intervals) 1:00:00 [3]

Did an 800m warm up jog then drills for about 30 mins
The we did 500m,1 min rest, 300m, 100m walk & 100m jog in 3mins. We did this three times at a xc pace. It was pretty tough. Also I have a bit of a coldy thing so I was suffering a bit from that.
Then did a 400m warm down jog.
and Bex drove me there :) exciting!

Strength (Austins Exercises) 10:00 [3]

Did my dips, lunges & squats

Tuesday Feb 24, 2009 #

PE (Basketball) 45:00 [3]

Did basketball, mainly focussed on lay-up shots so was a lot of dribbling involved. I cant shoot to save my life!

PE (Badminton) 40:00 [3]

Lesson was a little shorter than normal cos had to do parents evening appointments. But badminton was pretty energetic.

PE (Badminton) 45:00 [3]

Did badminton in PE, its pretty tiring!

Strength (Austins Exercises) 5:00 [3]

Did normal leg dips, lunges and squats. Not for very long but its hard doing them for a long time. Will try to do more of them, but probs only for the 5 mins instead of 10/15.

Orienteering race (Burnham) 48:36 [3] 5.8 km (8:23 / km)

Overall okay, no big mistakes. It was my fitness that let me down-the terrain was too fast for me. I found there were too many long legs for me-I prefer shorter ones.
1)I took the long way round because I was annoyed at the map man, and its always good to play it safe to no. 1.
3)At the end of the leg was a bit confused
4)I didn't stick to my plan. I went down the path a bit and then around the hill instead of down.
6)I feel this went quite well. I stuck to my plan and didn't overthink my route.
9)I folded the beginning of the route off my map and thought I was going down the other road so I had to stop to sort myself out.
10)I didn't really have a plan so I just followed my bearingish. Luckily I didn't get lost but it made me very hesitant.
Finish)Good run in time:) my dacorum and tring training has helped with my speed

As requested I need 2 or more positives things about my run:
1)I concentrated well. I didn't think about what position I was comin or anything which always puts me off, or any un-orienteering related things.
2)I didn't make any huge mistakes and get lost.
3)Not really anything big-but best run in time:)

Orienteering (Control Collecting) 30:00 [3] *** 4.0 km (7:30 / km)
10c

Collected some controls after running. Went out and did 6, map memoried the last 3 of them. So I went back and had a rest but then had to go out and get more controls. Went with mum and we split the controls to collect. Did some of them map memory too so that was good.

Orienteering race (JOK Sprint) 30:54 [3] *** 3.3 km (9:22 / km)
spiked:6/11c

Prologue (Whippendell Woods)
Did Womens Open
Did a major mess of number 2, took about 8 mins, should have taken 3 mins. I didn't let this bother me and got it back together for no. 3.
Then no. 4 didn't count my paths properly and started looking a path too early, took me a while to realise what I'd done wrong.
Then number 5 was quick and I got it back together. No. 6 was a bit bad-found it hard going up the hill sideways. The rest of the course was alright.
Winning time was 20.25

Orienteering race (JOK Sprint) 24:53 [3] *** 3.7 km (6:44 / km)
spiked:12/16c

Chase
Was much better than the Prologue, managed to overtake 4 people. Caught up a group of people at number 3. Didn't make any major mistakes, just a few wobbles!

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Was a pretty easy session
Did warm up jog with Steven and Sarah, we got a bit lost but it was alright, took about 20 mins
Then did stretching and drills for a long time, took up most of the session
At the end did 3x strides-about 80%

Orienteering (HH Junior Training) 5:00:00 [1]

Helped with the HH junior training
-Started by hanging controls for later-I hung 11 controls
-Then the kids did map symbol relays and finding symbols on a Burnham map-helped out and also got a good look at the Burnham map for Sunday- so was good for my technical skills!
-Then they worked on map orientation in a snake.
-Then helped with worksheets on handrails and map symbols-so helped my technicalness too
-Went outside and did more map orientation on the flower pot grids, jogged round with some of them
-In the afternoon they did yellow and orange courses I had to sweep round behind them to help the ones struggling-they can go quite fast!

Circuits 1:00:00 [3]

Alan was away so Hannah took the session
was a balanced mix between weights and cardio
The warm was a bit long-10/15 mins of just jogging round the badminton courts

Monday Feb 16, 2009 #

Running (Intervals) 35:00 [4]

Again it wasn't with Dacorum and Tring but that what I will call that style training!
Did a 5/10min warm up jog to the fields behind Bridgewater
Then did intervals round those 2 fields- did alternate fast and rest-did 5 of each. The state underfoot was really muddy or even still thick snowy ice so it wasn't very good
Used Bexs Garmin and heartrate monitor which will be good to look at but im rubbish at using it so some of the laps were not quite right...

Sunday Feb 15, 2009 #

Strength (Austins Exercises) 10:00 [3]

As normal did dips on each leg, squats and lunges

Saturday Feb 14, 2009 #

Orienteering (SEJS) 30:00 [2]

Control Hanging
I got a lift with Keith & Sue so had to do some control hanging
Hung 5 controls.

Orienteering (SEJS) 30:00 [3] *** 3.4 km (8:49 / km)
6c

Routes
Was training with Helen so practised map readign while running
I planned the route for next control while she was running the route I'd planned for that control and I had to follow
I'm not v good at explaining it!

Orienteering (SEJS) 20:00 [3] 2.2 km (9:05 / km)

Attack Points
Did the same as with the routes, but I had to have a def attack point to my route aswell
I think doing these has really helped with reading the map while proper running, but now i need to add the navigation factor too!

Orienteering (SEJS) 25:00 [3] *** 2.2 km (11:22 / km)

Control Pick
This time I was doing like a proper course with Helen following me
Focussed on keeping my flow on it
was a bit eurgh with 5,6 & 7

Orienteering (SEJS) 40:00 [3] ***

Hanging Exercise
You had to go hang your control, then do the course from your contol, finish the course at your control and take it back to the start
But my control was furthest away cos I was the oldest at this training, and Richards control was like infront of mine on the way to it (if that makes sense!) so he was with me all the way and he can run really quick cos his legs are long so it wasn't fair.
And my control was on a depression and in the control circle was 2 depressions and a knoll and I couldn't see the depression so hung it on the knoll...

Running (Hill reps) 40:00 [4]

So not actually with D&T because its Polly's party so I went earlier
Did a 10 minute warm up run
For my reps I then went up finch around Orchard Ave and back down Finch. This took between 5:15 and 5:30 mins
I did 4 reps with 1:30 min rest in between
It was icy on the pavement which slowed me down a bit, and i didn't do as long a warm up as we do at Tring.

Wednesday Feb 11, 2009 #

PE (Basketball) 45:00 [3]

Did basketball, don't really like it, but its better than in bridgewater
did some dribbling stuff, had to run alot!
then some quick swap in and out games

Tuesday Feb 10, 2009 #

Strength 10:00 [3]

Did Austins exercises
I really need to be doing more of them!

Sunday Feb 8, 2009 #

Wii fit 25:00 [2]

My wii age was 18-not too bad
did lots of muscle workouts and yoga things

Saturday Feb 7, 2009 #

Run 50:00 [3]

Went up to the common, down the big dipper and back along the canal from Dudswell.
Took longer than normal for 2 reasons-not been training for a week and that there is lots of snow!
Didn't time my mile at then end because me & mum forgot to take a watch!
