Running race (High Altitude) 3:47:25 [4] 14.5 mi (15:41 / mi) +1100m 7:53 / km
shoes: Asics (pair 3)
Mount Evans Ascent - America's highest road race. This is the only road race I know where an average 15 minute mile is not unreasonable! It started at 11,000 ft and ended at just below the summit of Mt Evans - 14,264 ft. The first few miles were steeply uphill, ran for the first bit, but then walked a lot of the way. Then a long flattish run (slighly up) around 12,500 ft - including a downhill. Finally a long uphill to the summit (including a short downhill at one point).

Walked most of the last part. At mile 13 (approx 13,500 ft) I definitely felt the effects of the altitude - dizzy and nausios - but carried on and reached the finish. Then went the last bit up to the true summit of the mountain. This included crossing some snow - quite a chalenge in road running shoes.

The race staff shuttled us down the mountain, which took 1 hour!.

Mile splits (from the road milage signs - not sure how accurate they are!).

Running 1:07:41 [3] 5.5 mi (12:18 / mi) +300m 6:32 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend
Another not really taper run at Apex Park. Rocky trails, so I was a bit tentative going back down. Walked along the concrete trail at the end (not included in timing). Beutiful evening, but rather too many mountain bikers, which meant I had to keep stopping to let them past.

Tuesday Jun 12

Running 47:37 [4] 5.2 mi (9:08 / mi)
shoes: Asics (pair 3)
Well, having said this was supposed to be a "taper week" I actually pushed harder tonight, mostly due to the ideal conditions (ie about 15 degrees C and light rain). Washington Park was almost deserted due to the conditions.

2 laps, counter clockwise - 23:38 and 24:00 (actually slighly closer to each other than that as I took the split about 5 s late).

Monday Jun 11

Note
Taper week (not that I really have much to taper from!).

Sunday Jun 10

Cycling 1:34:55 [3] 22.45 mi (4:14 / mi)
First real bike ride for a bit. Hot.
