Orienteering race (Long) 3:32:12 [4]**** 14 km (15:09 / km) +515m 12:48 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 1
US Long Orienteering Championships - Red course. Held at Saylor Park - in the middle of nowhere (in the Rampart Range, N of Woodland Park and W of Monument). Much more fun than last weekend. Areas of broad spur re-entrant terrain, others with more complex contour features, and lots of detailed rock features. Did fairly well for the first 2/3 (except for the 1st control, but was getting tired later, and finding it difficult to read the detailed rock features around the control. I would navigate OK to within 200m of the control and then loose a couple of minutes in the circle.
Control Pickup 45:00 [1]
Picked up 3 controls and two taped routes. The controls were easy, but as for the taped routes....

Red - Splits

Thursday Aug 9

Note
Generally lacking in energy. Decided to save what little I have for the weekend, and not run tonight.

Tuesday Aug 7

Running 47:24 [4]5.2 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Asics (pair 3)
Usual Washington Park workout (clockwise). Best run I've had in quite a long time - helped by the cooler weather - which meant I could keep up with the others sufficiently to be spurred on by them. Times for the two loops: 24:00 and 23:24 (negative split!).

Sunday Aug 5

Orienteering race 2:45:10 [4]*** 13.2 km (12:31 / km) +310m 11:12 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 1
Colorado 5 days - blue day 2. Even more a runners course than yesterday. Navigation generally easy, but long legs through prarie, plus some very steep rocky ascents and descents. (Having said that I lost about 3 minutes on no 1 due to carelessness, and made an error on no 18 due to being tired). Not enough water points on the course, and I was feeling dehydrated near the end. Also I was still feeling the effects of yesterday. Last place by quite a long way today.
Came face to face with a cow at one point (it seems that others met the same cow as well!).
