Orienteering race 2:15:00 [3] ***
shoes: Integrators pair 1
RMOC meet at Palmer Park. 5.15k plus lots of climb. Time is a bit of an approximation as forgot to start my watch at the start, or stop it at the finish! Weather was hot and sunny.

It's rare that I can't say I enjoyed an orienteering event, but today was one occasion. The map was old (1999) and the vegetation thick. Not as impassable as at Bear Creek Lake Park, but thick such that it obscured many rock features including some which were control sites. The controls were generally hung low which lead to lots of "bingo" controls. In addition some controls were in the wrong place - especially one in a re-entrant which I never found (apparently it was in the next re-entrant east, and too low). Others who did find it apparently spend much time in the area. There was a second control that I also didn't find - at least one other experienced orienteer failed to find that one as well. Others hit these controls dead on, but failed on controls I hit spot on.

In addition, I had two dogs threaten me (others were apparently threatened as well).

I wasn't coping well with the heat (I got somewhat dehydrated) and was feeling unenergetic.

On the plus side, there were some fantastic views of Pikes Peak accross Colorado Springs, and some interesting rock features on the map (of course these were still accurate despite the age of the map).

Running 1:00:00 [4] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics (pair 3)
Brayes Bayou route from Rice University in Houston. Very hot and humid. Kept up with Fred and Jeff (?) until the end of the Bayou and then the heat and humudity caught up with me. Knee surprisingly OK until the last mile.

TIme is a guess as I forgot my watch. Distance is also a guess as the route has changed since I ran it regularly, due to construction in the parking lot we used to use.

Sunday Sep 16

Course Setting 1:30:00 [1] ***
Putting out the last few controls at Bear Creek.
Note
Had to leave it to others to pick up controls after the meet (in the rain!) as I had to leave to fly to Houston.
