| Event: RMOC Frisco Ski-O & Snowshoe-O | ||
| Skiing (cross country) race 2:32:02 [3] ** | ||
| RMOC Ski Orienteering event at Frisco. There were 20 controls and you had to get either 6 (short course), 10 (intermediate course) or 16 (long course). I got 16.
I started in the SE corner of the map where most the trails are black. I fell a couple of times (once on a very steep downhill, once on an ungroomed uphill). On the second fall I lost my map. I only realized this when I reached the next control, so I had to go back for it. It wasn't where I fell, so I ended up going back to where I last looked at it (which included a bushwack). It turned out I'd dropped it where I fell, but it had blown away (so more trail breaking to rescue it). The rest of the course was less eventful, I only fell once more, and managed a couple of steep downhills the likes of which I'd have only dreamt of a few weeks ago. The course I took must be paying off! It was fairly warm (20's Farenheit), and I had to strip some layers off later on. My gloves were definitely too thick!
| Snow Shoeing race (Orienteering) 1:33:06 [3] ** | ||
| The less said about this the better. It was a 90 minute snowshoe score event, but I didn't have any energy after skiing in the morning. Only got 7 controls. Off trail the powder was very deep. | ||
| Skiing (cross country) 1:00:00 [2] ** | ||
| Picked up some controls from the ski-o. Even better on hills than earlier (although I did fall on an icy slope near the end). | ||
| Note | ||
| The journey home involved I-70 ski traffic in all it's fury. Over 2.5 hours for the 70 mile journey (over an hour to the tunnel due to a crash on the far side). | ||

| Running (Trail) 1:14:20 [3] 6.1 mi (12:10 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend | ||
| South Table Mesa to the Golden overlook and back. Having a bit of difficulty seeing on the way back as my glasses kept steaming up, and there wasn't enough snow for the rocks to stand out in my headlamp. Longest run I've done so far this year.
Route - I've tried to make this as accurate as possible, but the trails have changed since the photos were taken, especially in the eastern part of the area.
| Note | ||
| Some of us were going to see Spirit of the Marathon after running, but it's sold out everywhere (and only on tonight). | ||
Tuesday Jan 22 | ||
| Running 54:30 [3] 5.2 mi (10:29 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Asics (pair 3) | ||
| First running for over 1.5 weeks. Usual 2 laps of Washington Park (clockwise) - icy, but the main problems was I couldn't get my legs to go very fast. Splits were 26:01 and 28:28. | ||
