| HOC Score-O at Jones state forest. This event reminded me why I don't like orienteering in SE Texas, and why I went to so many A-meets when I lived in Houston. I started off OK, but then spent too much time looking for 2 controls which were in the wrong place (the course was set by school kids, and who knows how well it was vetted). Too much hacking about in vegetation for my liking. |

| Picked up about 1/2 of the controls from the score-O, including the two which were in the wrong place (I felt better about not finding them in the race, once I'd convinced myself that they were in the wrong place). One of them had the description marsh/stream junction. Standing where it was hung there was no evidence of either a marsh or a stream!
One animal sighting, two turtles in the lake by the finish. |

| When I first came to Jones Forest in 1998, it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere - surrounded by farmland. Now it is almost completely surrounded by houses and strip malls. |

| Brayes Bayou route in Houston TX, from the West Stadium lot. Went a longer route than usual at the start, round to the Medical Center, then the usual route. The people I was with weren't running particularly fast, but I picked up the pace a bit at the end.

| Western States O Championships - Red day 2. More of the same, but felt steeper (or perhaps it was just my knee complaining after yesterday!), and the weather was hotter. Made more mistakes, mostly 30 s parallel errors, but they cost me 2nd place in M40 overall (by 11 seconds). Fortunately the person who beat me wasn't Championship eligible, so I was still 2nd place on M40 in the Western States O Championships. Good thing I'm not M45, otherwise I'd have been way down the field! |

| Went to look at the cactus in Saguaro National Park, before a late flight back to Denver. |
