Saturday Apr 19

Event: RMOC Cherry Creek St. Pk.

Control Setting 1:15:00 [1] **
Putting out last few controls at Cherry Creek (mostly white/yellow).
Note
Most people seemed to enjoy their courses today, although there was some controversy over one control on red, green and orange, which was a ditch end in an area with several ditches. Some people were convinced it was in the wrong place and lost time looking for it, some people found it with no problems but still thought it was in the wrong place. Others were convinced it was in the right place. Strange, because I'd attacked it from several directions during course setting and always hit the same point. So had my vetter. When I was picking up controls I made sure I got the area including that control and convinced myself it was in the correct place. However, the vegetation mapping in that area is inaccurate, which I think threw some people off.
Control Pickup 30:00 [1] ***
Picking up controls including the one referred to in my note above. Saw 4 garter snakes (3 within about a 15 second period!).

Friday Apr 18

Control Setting 3:00:00 [1] ***
Putting out controls at Cherry Creek. Warm day. I was actually at the park about 4.5 hours. Saw lots of deer, plus a garter snake.

Thursday Apr 17

Cycling 8:05 [2] 1.94 mi (4:09 / mi)
To work
Note
No bike statistics on the way home as I managed to get my bike computer into a different mode, and had to look at the manual to fix it when I got home!
Cycling 1:03:34 [3] 13.92 mi (4:33 / mi)
Evening ride around Bear Creek Lake Park and Red Rocks. Hilly. Reached 31.5 mph!

Wednesday Apr 16

Cycling 20:30 [2] 3.93 mi (5:12 / mi)
Commute. Journey in was 1.94 miles in 7:47 which was my fastest yet. Much slower on the way home due to snow! Complete contrast from yesterday.

Tuesday Apr 15

Cycling 18:25 [2] 3.78 mi (4:52 / mi)
Commute. Hot (80 F) on the way home!
Note
Lecture 2 of the CMC Wilderness course. This was on map and compass, and I was somewhat dreading it with visions of having to learn "shoot azimuths" and ignoring the terrain. I was pleasantly surprised when the instructor talked about the terrain being more important than the compass. Let's see what the field day in 1.5 weeks will reveal.

Monday Apr 14

Cycling 18:30 [2] 3.79 mi (4:52 / mi)
Commute.

Sunday Apr 13

Cycling 1:36:23 [3] 23.29 mi (4:07 / mi)
Beautiful spring day. Took in parts of the Highline Canal Trail (which was fairly quiet) and the Cherry Creek Trail (which was busy).
