Final RMOC event of the season - at Kelly Dahl. A much better experience than last weekend! Perfect weather, good course by JP, etc etc.
Forgot to stop my watch at the end - my tracks should end at point 19.

DTR at S Table from Tanglewood. Nice evening to be on the Mesa. Got to the top of the hill just before the powerlines. Used my light from the main junction on on the way back.
Afterwards, Matt told us about this race. Don't think any of us are going to be doing it anytime soon!

White Ranch, on a new expanded (more steep stuff added) version of the map - which seamed vastly over-mapped in the bouldery areas. Memories of Burnt Mountain from last weekend, but far more physical (so maybe more like Fallen Leaf lake), and hot, leading to a rare DNF (I made the decision after struggling up the hill to 20, having difficulty finding it, and then not immediately finding 21 - I'd been out 3h 25m, and I the final loop would take another 30-40 minutes at the rate I was then going). I was in good company though, when I left 5 people had DNF'd on blue and one had finished (and he had set 8 of the controls and still took well over 4 hours). Lots of problems reading the rock features (a bit like last weekend), and the controls often were hidden in gaps in the rocks - so a long leg often ended up with searching around in the control circle. Admittedly part of the physical problem was my fault for running 12 miles yesterday (although the heat both days didn't help).
Strangely I only saw 4 other orienteers during my course - Brooke and Valentina around 13-14 (both on Green), Simon sporadically ahead of me, and Gordon at 19.
NB - There's no way the climb on this course was only 440m as per the description.

Looking at the splits makes me feel a lot better about my performance today -:)
Also - apparently no 6 (the first control where I had problems) was in the wrong place (although I was still originally looking a long way from where it should have been).
