UsynligO course on Stony Run, a KP map by Greg A of a piece of State Forest north of Stroudsburg. I really enjoyed orienteering here. The area is predominantly hardwood forest and has excellent visibility (100m+). There are lots of features (cliffs, boulders, vegetation, stone wall remnants, trails, a few marshes and good contour detail). There are areas of blueberry and ferns as well as rocky ground, so the going can be slow at times. Unfortunately, this particular piece of SF is only about 1.5 km^2, so there’s nothing else to be added. The fact that the leaves were in their full Fall splendor made it that much better.

Navigated well. Off left on two bearing legs, but Janet pointed out to me afterwards that magnetic north probably wasn’t parallel to the paper edge, as I had assumed. Used a hint at 10 to figure things out when I was looking for a cliff and seeing several more cliffs in the terrain than were on the map.

Hiking 28:12 intensity: (27:44 @0) + (28 @1) 1.45 km (19:29 / km) +32m 17:33 / km

Wandering around in the woods at Stony Run while Janet finished her course. Checked out some of the mapped ruins.
