Saturday Sep 30

Note
Stacked a cord of wood and did some other yard work. "Training" for the upper body, which I don't do enough of.

Thursday Sep 28

Road Run 26:13 [3] 3.07 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
Rt. 66N, Shaker Museum Rd to Thruway bridge and back. 60's and breezy. Ran a bit faster than intended but felt good (or great).

Wednesday Sep 27

Trail Run 49:48 [3] 4.9 mi (10:09 / mi)
shoes: NB 809
Kennedy Park. Lots of hills. Over the ridge and down to the lowest part on the other side, then up to Balance Rock, which is almost the highest point in the Park. That climb was about 100m. Had to walk some. Nice day - 60's and sunny.

Sunday Sep 24

Orienteering race 56:19 [4] *** 5.13 km (10:59 / km) +100m 10:00 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: VJ Falcons
Classic at CNYO meet on Lime Hollow map. A good run, with a few minor errors (<30sec each), mostly on leg execution. Caught Jim Eagleton at #4 and flip-flopped with him most of the rest of the way. Walter caught me at 10 (started 2 minutes later than me) - beat him in the finish chute.

Classic - Green - Splits

Saturday Sep 23

Event: CNYO A meet

Orienteering race 14:18 [5] *** 1.83 km (7:49 / km) +50m 6:52 / km
spiked:9/13c shoes: VJ Falcons
Sprint at CNYO meet on Hope Lake Map. A few small errors, the largest of which was chasing the wrong bag on #4 (didn't look at the map long enough so didn't get the trails right). Off a bit on 2 3 and 10. Chased
Charlie up through 9 when he decided to head for a different control than 10.
Orienteering race 39:04 [4] *** 3.52 km (11:06 / km) +115m 9:32 / km
spiked:10/13c shoes: VJ Falcons
Middle Distance at CNYO meet on Hope Lake map. 1.5min error on 5 and 2min error on 6, both missing the control and overshooting. Sloppy on 2 and 7. Chasing Ken early on, passed him 3 times as I made mistakes and he didn't. In a train with Walter, Brad and Ken later when they caught us.

Middle - Green - Splits

Sprint - Old Eyes - Splits

Thursday Sep 21

Road Run 36:10 [3] 4.17 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
Around the "south block" clockwise. 55F. Was going to do a shorter out and back but felt pretty good so went for the longer run. Time to start training for the Highlander. :-)

Wednesday Sep 20

Road Run 29:11 [3] 3.3 mi (8:51 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
66N to Pitts Road and back. 55F - Fall's on the way.

Sunday Sep 17

Event: 2006 Sprint Series Finals

Orienteering race 15:02 [5] *** 2.4 km (6:16 / km) +40m 5:47 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons
Sprint 1. 3rd in heat just behind Rick Dewitt but moved ahead on fastest time rule. A few small errors but controls were done as a group effort.
Orienteering race 20:11 [5] **** 2.32 km (8:42 / km) +55m 7:47 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons
Sprint 2. More in the woods and more technical than the 1st sprint. About a minute of error on #8 plus a few other smaller ones. Feeling the effects of the first sprint and couldn't move as fast as I wanted.
Orienteering race 27:39 [4] *** 2.56 km (10:48 / km) +80m 9:20 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons
Sprint 3. A few route choice errors, one of which resulted in a 6 minute error when I started searching in the wrong group of buildings. Lost the pack after the map exchange and then had trouble keeping map contact. A really nice, challenging course.

Sprint #1 - short - Splits

Sprint #2 - short - Splits

Sprint FINAL - short - Splits

Saturday Sep 16

Event: 2006 Sprint Series Finals Festival

Orienteering race 56:12 [4] *** 4.67 km (12:02 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons
Farsta at Hickory Run SP as part of Sprint Festival. Split the legs with Janet with her doing the shortest possible leg (RGRR) and me doing the longest possible (GRGG). Pretty clean run with about a two minute error on the penultimate control (163 - described as the "upper boulder rocky ground junction" - Huh?). Saw very few people out there since I did the second leg. Lots more bearing and pace than I normally do, but it seemed to work.

Friday Sep 15

Road Run 17:04 [3] 2.0 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
Short run with 4 or 5 short pick-ups (between power poles). Rt 66S. Quite humid (of course - it rained for the last two days).

Wednesday Sep 13

Trail Run 38:51 [3] 3.9 mi (9:57 / mi)
shoes: NB 809
At Hand Hollow Preserve. Did about 1.1miles at intensity 4 in three separate pieces with slower stuff in between (about 9 minutes of faster running).

Sunday Sep 10

Orienteering 1:39:09 [1] *** 4.5 km (22:02 / km)
shoes: NB 809
Hanging controls at Colonie Town Park for our NOD meet. 31 controls.
Orienteering 16:00 [3] *** 2 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: NB 809
Picking up controls. Actually took about 22 minutes but subtracted 6 min (estimated) for taking down flags and folding them (9 contrtols). Lots of starting and stopping, but my only real workout all weekend.

Friday Sep 8

Road Run 27:12 [3] 3.1 mi (8:46 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
Quick road run (not to be confused with a fast road run). 66S, Richmond Rd, and a bit down Reed Rd and back. This work stuff sure interferes with training. :-)

Wednesday Sep 6

Trail Run 40:05 [3] 3.67 mi (10:55 / mi)
shoes: NB 809
Kennedy Park in Lenox, MA. Lots of twisting single track and plenty of hills. The mountain bikers that make some of these trails are nuts - a drop over a 1.5 meter cliff followed by a reentrant used as a half-pipe in one case. Most of the trails are more tame, although some remnants of Ernesto have increased the gnarliness in a few places.

Monday Sep 4

Road Run tempo 13:35 [4] 1.8 mi (7:32 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
Decided I should do some speed work since the Sprint Finals are only 13 days away. :-) Pushed the pace for the middle part of the run.
Road Run 16:32 [3] 1.85 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
The first and last parts of the run. Rt 66N, Shaker Museum Rd. Mid 60's and overcast.

Saturday Sep 2

Road Run 44:16 [3] 5.0 mi (8:51 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6
From my in-laws place in southern DE. The day after tropical storm Ernesto dumped 5+ inches of rain along with 30-40mph winds (I thought about running yesterday but Janet wouldn't let me). About half on dirt (packed sand) roads. Very flat.
