Road Run tempo 30:16 intensity: (15:16 @3) + (15:00 @4) 3.69 mi (8:12 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

66N, Shaker Museum Rd and back with 2.0 miles at tempo pace ( 7:40 target, 7:30 actual). 40F, which felt quite comfortable.

Road Run 35:46 [3] 4.09 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

N on 66. Doin' some miles. 35F and dark.

Sunday Nov 25, 2007 #

Event: Mt Tom

Orienteering race 1:37:39 [4] *** 6.2 km (15:45 / km) +310m 12:36 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Red course at Mt. Tom set by Phil. Big error on #2 (13 min), 4 min on #6 and a couple more smaller errors, mostly mid-route execution or route choice errors. Should've been under 80 min. Physically tough course (plenty of rocks and climb) with good navigational challenges. A very nice day (for late November) - upper 40's and sunny. And there was even some snow, but only a little bit along the side of the road left from the previous Tuesday. More comments with the splits. Forerunner measured 8.63 km (1.4 km of that on #2 which was a 330m leg)

Road Run 44:58 [3] 5.3 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

A loop to the south from my folks place in New Holland, PA. Passed one girl on a horse and one buggy (both coming toward me) - ah, the quaintness of Amish country. :-)

Quite a warm day for November, about 66F and sunny when I ran. Distance is an estimate - the Forerunner battery was discharged so I had to use a conventional watch (maybe high-tech just isn't supposed to be used here).

Tuesday Nov 20, 2007 #

Road Run 37:10 [3] 4.29 mi (8:40 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

Shaker Museum Rd. to the far end of the Cemetery and back. About 40F with a few lingering remnants of the snow from earlier in the day, mostly at the edges of the road.

Orienteering race 1:11:30 [4] *** 6.33 km (11:18 / km) +170m 9:57 / km
spiked:13/17c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Red course at WCOC event on Hemlock Hills map (part of the Wooster Mtn. map in progress). Fun course in fairly technical terrain but with nice, generally open woods. OK run with 5 or 6 minutes of errors and hesitations spread among several legs. Overcast and about 40F. Forerunner measured 7.88km actual distance.

Road Run tempo 33:42 intensity: (21:59 @3) + (11:43 @4) 4.08 mi (8:16 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

Didn't really plan to do a tempo run but picked up the pace at the turnaround and did 1.5 miles at 7:45 pace (with ~20m of climb). Wintry: 33F, breezy and snow flurries. And dark. Only 4.5 months until DST starts again.

Road Run 28:37 [3] 3.33 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

66N in the dark on a rather warm evening (52F in November). Back of right leg has been tight - sore variously from the heel to the hamstring - OK running, but odd. Took yesterday off because of it and started today's run with the intent of bailing if it hurt running. Landed hard on the heel at Sessions Woods on Sunday which may be the cause.

Sunday Nov 11, 2007 #

Orienteering race 1:20:10 [4] *** 6.4 km (12:32 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Red course at Sessions Woods. Big errors on 3 and 4, two relatively short legs with plenty of mountain laurel around. Tried to read the green (mistake) and got pushed off course. Also missed 9 by a bit but relocated off the orange control on the nearby rocks/dot knoll. Total errors 11 or 12 minutes. Nice course by Rich and Jim, sending us into the greener area first and then letting us run through the open woods in the second half. A sunny day, but temps in the low 40's with a breeze.

EMPO Club Champs at Pinnacle/Thacher

Orienteering race 1:01:51 [5] *** 5.35 km (11:34 / km) +300m 9:02 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

EMPO Club Champs at Pinnacle/Thacher. Temps in the 30's and about an inch of snow on the ground! Could've been under an hour. The two controls I missed were by about a minute each. One of those was actually in an area I had never been in before (I've set 3 A-meet days and a Billygoat on this map).

Lots of climb - it was advertised at 235m of climb but I think that would have required a perfect contour across about 10 reentrants (in Thacher "light green"). I chose a road run over that and added 5 or so contours. One of the controls was a classic West Point placement - top of a hill with a 9 contour climb. Nice view, but a pointless slog, and there wasn't even much route choice on the leg.

Was second fastest on Red and first in M45 (10 year age groups).

Road Run 34:26 [3] 4.08 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

South on 66 and back in the dark. Cooler than earlier in the week, about 35F. In February 35 will feel pretty good, but for now it's cold. At least it hasn't snowed yet (here). Felt pretty good running.

Tuesday Nov 6, 2007 #

Road Run 26:24 [3] 3.07 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7

Easy run. 66N, Shaker Museum Rd to the T'way bridge and back. Cool - 39F.

Day 1 of US Champs - Prince William Forest

Friday Nov 2, 2007 #

Event: US Champs

Orienteering 40:00 [2] *** 2.0 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Classic Model Event - Prince William Forest Park. Jogged and walked around in the model area.

Orienteering 20:00 intensity: (8:00 @1) + (12:00 @3) *** 1.0 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint Model Event. Did the sprint model event at a run/jog pace then did a bit more walking around to check out the woods (which turned out to be a bit worse than the actual sprint terrain).

Orienteering race 19:17 [5] *** 2.5 km (7:43 / km) +87m 6:34 / km
spiked:17/17c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

US Sprint Champs at Prince William Forest. A good run with probably about 30 seconds lost, mostly due to minor execution errors mid-route. Hesitated some on the early legs, but I think that paid off since I hit all the controls pretty well. Second fastest time on M50, fastest US M50, 5th fastest overall on Green.
