Orienteering race 1:48:05 [3] *** 8.0 km (13:31 / km)
spiked:9/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Blue course at HVO local event on north part of Surebridge map. Nice course by Bob Bullions with lots of long, route choice legs. About 8 - 10 minutes of errors, mostly mid-route execution areas. Was reading the map and terrain fairly well and surprised myself a couple of times at how fast I relocated. A bit cool (low 40's and breezy) but fine for running in the woods. My legs are now quite aware that it's been a long time since I've run in rocky terrain. Forerunner measured about 10.4km actual distance.

Road Run 34:38 [3] 4.16 mi (8:20 / mi)

Last day of Winter! 66N, Pratt, Bacchus, 66S. Mostly sunny, upper 40s with a breeze.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2009 #

Road Run 41:59 [3] 4.88 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Hilly run up Syring Rd. and Albany Tpke to the gas pipeline. Back via Albany Tpke and 66. Low 50's with the sun just about to set as I got to the top of the hill at the pipeline.

Sunday Mar 15, 2009 #

Trail Run 1:06:23 [3] 6.8 mi (9:46 / mi)
shoes: NB 874

A spectacular Spring day, 55F and sunny. Ran in the Pine Bush Preserve starting from Madison Ave. Extension. About 15 - 20% of the trails were ice/slush/water/mud but the rest was fine. Ran over to near Guilderland Elementary School (on a good portion of the Brave The Blizzard snowshoe race route). Then did the very convoluted single track loop (on school property, outside the Pine Bush). This is the first time I've ever been able to follow the entire loop. Oh, did I mention that the weather was spectacular.

Road Run 35:05 [3] 4.08 mi (8:36 / mi)

Easy run S on 66 and back. 50F and sunny. Is Spring here?

New shoes! Actually just a new pair of the same model.

Road Run 35:25 [3] 4.1 mi (8:38 / mi)

50 and light out (yeah daylight saving time). 66N, Shaker Museum Rd. and back. Legs tight after taking a few days off.

Road Run race 28:33 [5] 4.0 mi (7:08 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #8

Runnin' of the Green (Island) Road Race. Very flat course on the streets of Green Island, NY. Achieved my time goal (~28:40) but failed miserably on the tactical plan (start slowly and try to run a negative split). First mile in 6:50 (vs. 7:10 plan), then 7:14, 718, 7:10. Maybe some day I'll run a race where I don't start too fast. Satisfied with the result however since it's 30 seconds faster than last year.

Very nice day weatherwise. Low-mid 40's at the start with the sun coming out during the race. Finished 163rd out of 467 (this is the first significant race of the season for the local road running club so draws a pretty competitive crowd).

Road Run 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #8

Warm up/cool down. 1 mile before, 0.5 mile after (should've done more but ran into a guy I've been seeing at snowshoe races and got talking). Also did some strides a few minutes before the start which aren't included in the distance.

Thursday Mar 5, 2009 #

Other 1:00:00 [1]

Downhill Skiing at Mt. Snow with Rob. Sunny and 30's - quite nice.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2009 #

Road Run intervals 36:31 intensity: (29:37 @3) + (6:54 @4) 4.34 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #8

4 x 400 aiming for 1:47 (7:10/mi), trying to get a feel for my target race pace for Saturday's 4-miler. Was a bit too fast. Splits: 144, 140, 144, 146. 2:00 recovery between. Upper 20's with dry roads and some moon (either a half or a quarter) which brightened things up nicely. 66N and back.

Sunday Mar 1, 2009 #

Road Run 42:45 [3] 5.02 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #8

32W to N Chatham via Smith Rd and 203, back without the side trip. ~32 F and overcast.
