Note
EMPO event at Kinns Road
Orienteering race 1:08:44 [4] *** 5 km (13:45 / km)
spiked:16/23c shoes: VJ Falcons 2
EMPO local event at Kinns Road Park. A less than stellar performance, due in part to a map which is a bit flaky in places. Also, a couple of the controls were not hung on what I think was circled on the map - a difference of opinion between me and the course setter. Lots of controls since there is a heavy trail network. A good course in spite of the map. And a gorgeous day, 70's with low humidity and sunny. Forerunner measured 6.66km (and climb of over 800m - I don't think so!).

Thursday Jun 28

Road Run intervals 36:48 4.34 mi (8:28 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #7
5 x 0.25 mi with 0.25 mi recovery. On the roads, using the Forerunner to measure the distances (with the convenient "Distance Alert" feature). 66N , Bacchus Rd, Pratt Rd, 66S. Cooler than yesterday but still a bit muggy - in the 70's. And the FDF's were out, but not in great abundance. No need for tacky blue hats.

Splits: 1:49 (part uphill, actually 0.26 mi), 1:37, 1:39, 1:45 (uphill), 1:49 (uphill). Target pace was ~1:40. Average recovery time was 2:20.

Monday Jun 25

Trail Run 56:17 [3] * 5.05 mi (11:09 / mi) +200m 6:10 / km
shoes: NB 809
From Olivia's Overlook parking area on Richmond-Lenox Road. Burbank Trail loop plus a foray on some unmapped mountain bike trails for about 1.5 mi. Very nice trails on the ridge running NE-SW to the west of Lenox, MA. Quite well maintained but with plenty of rocks and roots. The mountain laurel was in full bloom. Warm and muggy (low 80's). Climb is a conservative estimate - from the parking area to the highest point is about 150m climb and there's lots of other up and down. Found a nice overlook to the east at the end of one of the mtn bike trails.
