| Trails at Moreau Lake SP, across the Palmertown Range (the undeveloped area of the park, except for trails). Ran the range from the west to the east, mostly on the East Ridge and Ridge Run Trails with an additional out and back partway along the West Ridge Trail. Janet dropped me at the west end, then drove to the other end where she hiked a loop, parking at the high point on Spier Falls Road.
First part of the run was ~600' climb in about a mile to the top of the plateau. Then lots of small ups and downs on mostly single track trail with plenty of rocks and roots - pretty technical. Trails were tough to follow at times because even though they're marked, they're not always distinct on the ground. Probably had to stop to check for markers about twenty times, with a few significant excursions onto unmarked trails. About 400' descent at the end to get down off the plateau. Great woods and terrain up on top but the logistics of running an O event here would be challenging. There are no roads to get you up on the plateau (except maybe the one to the medium security prison just south of the area).
Outstanding weather - 70's, sunny and fairly dry. Carried a camelback but was still underhydrated at the end. |

| Short out and back walk to meet Janet along the trail I knew she was returning on. |

| Trails at Hand Hollow. Fom the upper parking lot, so the first half was generally down and the second half up. Cooler day than it's been - low 70's, partly cloudy with a breeze. Humidity was down too, although it showered for a couple of minutes as I drove home.
AOWN: A heron at the rookery (down at the water, not in the nest). |

| Syring Rd, Albany Tpke west (actually north) to the gas pipeline and back. 1:43 faster on the return than going out, probably due to the ~80m of climb on the way out vs. ~20m on the return. Low 80's and sunny but humidity wasn't too bad.
AOWN: a great blue heron took off from the pond along Albany Tpke as I approached. |
