Orienteering race 27:29 [4] *** 2.49 km (11:02 / km)
spiked:10/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint B at Ratlum Mtn. Quite warm and humid, plenty of thick vegetation. Missed low on #3, off-line and short on #11, slightly off on a few others but read the terrain to correct. Probably could've been 2 minutes faster. Forerunner measured 3.16km.

Orienteering race 32:21 [3] *** 1.66 km (19:29 / km) +95m 15:09 / km
spiked:7/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 2

Sprint A at Ratlum Mtn. More thick stuff and some lousy navigation, plus a mental error. Thunderstorm started while I was out - the rain felt good though. Totally missed on #4 and #10 and bailed out to trails beyond them to relocate. Staying on a bearing in thick vegetation is not one of my strengths. Missed #2, but I think the map might be off in that area. Did a 180 out of #8 (which is about the time it started raining hard, so that's my excuse). Spiked #11 then proceeded directly to the finish, skipping #12 - Doh! Noticed I only had 11 splits and figured it out, so went and punched 12 and then the finish box again. That added about 2 minutes to an already atrocious performance. Oh well. Forerunner measured 2.76km, so I covered a bunch of extra ground.

AOWN - Almost too AOWN. As I was taking my shoes off at the car, lightening struck way too close. Fortunately I was mostly in the car (which may have acted as a Faraday cage) but I felt a pretty good jolt from the car to the back of my leg, which was hanging out of the car and may have been on the ground. No lasting damage and could've been a lot worse. Yikes!

Trail Run 39:10 [3] 4.09 mi (9:35 / mi)
shoes: NB 809

Easyish run at Hand Hollow. Started from the upper (western) parking lot so the first half is generally downhill and the second half isn't. Ran on a relatively new piece of trail (i.e. recently cleared) - about a 0.3mi loop, 25% open field, the rest in the woods. Not too hot but quite humid. FDF's were out, most bothersome in the parking lot. One confirmed kill. Will forgo a blue hat for now, especially when it's this warm.
