Orienteering race 59:58 [4] *** 5.65 km (10:37 / km) +85m 9:52 / km
spiked:10/12c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

UNO Boulder Dash Day 2 on Sargent Center map. A more challenging course than Day 1. A dubious choice of control location for the penultimate control - on a form-line depression (with a 2.5m contour interval) in a rather bland area with unmapped things which could be form-line depressions. The mapping in the area may be off and it's possible the flag wasn't hung on the mapped feature. Lost about 4 minutes, spotting the bag on my third attempt. Forerunner track shows that I was within 15m and 10m of the flag on my earlier attempts but didn't spot it (it was hung in an evergreen). Rest of the run was good - missed #9 by a bit on a bearing from the trail bend and missed a trail when I crossed it coming out of 9 which led to some confusion (and time loss) on the way to 10. Was surprised a few times to see walls in the terrain which I hadn't noticed on the map (my brain tends to ignore straight black lines, especially those running N-S or E-W, so I need to be careful). 1st M55 and 2nd overall on Green M. 60's with some sun but woods were still wet. Forerunner measured 6.90 km.

Orienteering race 59:39 [4] *** 5.95 km (10:02 / km)
spiked:10/11c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

UNO Boulder Dash Day 1 on Fox Forest map. A disappointing course involving way too much trail running for this map. Apparently other courses did better, but the Green M course avoided what appears to be a challenging area of the map in the southwest and had a major dogleg (8-9-10) which could have been easily avoided and set up a much better leg to 10. Also had a 500m "dead run" leg which probably wasn't necessary.

Had a decent run with about a 2.5 minute error on #8 where I stopped short and then turned uphill to check other boulders when I should've continued straight. Lost maybe another minute on hesitations. 1st M-55, 3rd fastest on Green M.

Low 50's and rainy - OK for running. Forerunner measured 7.13km.
