Orienteering race 22:11 [4] *** 2.81 km (7:53 / km) +68m 7:02 / km
spiked:6/8c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

An OK run on a map that was quite difficult to read - lots of green (on the map, I didn't find the terrain too bad) and a long, narrow course with nearly parallel legs. Trails were sometimes a bit hard to see in the terrain, which cost me a minute to the first control. Caught by jima (1 min behind) at #1, and by Ernst (2 min back) at #4 and the three of us flip-flopped the rest of the way. Almost strayed away from 5 with Ernst but corrected sooner and got there first.

Orienteering race 38:52 [4] *** 4.49 km (8:39 / km) +54m 8:10 / km
spiked:6/14c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

An ugly run. Going too fast and worrying far too much about getting caught by Ernst who started two minutes back. Map was tough to read and course markings obscured some critical features at time. Off on most of the controls.

Format was a shortish qualifier in the morning with a longer final in the afternoon. Almost 4 hours in between, which is a lot of time to kill. I'd have preferred the two races much closer together (actually, I'd have preferred a single middle distance race with better map printing).

Road Run 29:06 [3] 3.34 mi (8:42 / mi) +49m 8:20 / mi
shoes: NB878 - #9

Time to start training again I guess. 66N and back. Malden Bridge is finally open as a two lane bridge (after about 2 years of single lane and a traffic light). Hooray! Clear and 50F and getting dark as I finished.

Field Checking 50:00 [2] ** 3.0 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: Icebug SISU olx

Block vetting a group of W, Y, O controls on the lower part of the map. Ran/jogged much of it but made several stops to make fine adjustments to control locations (making White controls extra visible mostly). Chilly when I started at ~7:30am.

Spent most of the rest of the day on my feet orchestrating control pickup and packing up equipment. Picked up one control (the "GO" control) thanks to lots of volunteers offering their help. Done by 6pm.
