Trails at Schodack Island SP. Trails had all been either groomed for skiing and well packed or snowshoed on previously. They were a bit uneven due to foot traffic (humans, dogs, deer and who knows what else). Running shoes with YakTrax or microspikes would probably have worked, but I wore snowshoes. Overcast with temperature in the mid-30's so pleasant running. Intended a fairly easy run but felt comfortable pushing the pace and going a bit further than initially planned (although I've run the trails here several times, I tend to forget/ignore that doing the trail loop out and back to the south is over 5 miles). Several people out shuffling on skis, one other (walking) on snowshoes.

Warm-up. Mostly on the road with a few bits on snowmobile trails (the race course). Checking out the race surface (= all snowmobiled trail so no gaiters needed).
Snowshoe race 44:30 4.71 mi (9:27 / mi) +93m8:54 / mi ahr:158 max:162 shoes: Dion Snowshoes
Snowshoe race at Wilton Wildlife Preserve (Camp Saratoga). Upper 20's with some breeze, but not noticeable in the woods. Trail had all been packed by snowmobile and was only soft in a few places, so it favored the road runners (no need to lift the feet much higher than running on a road surface). Most of the course is wide enough to pass easily. The area is glacial terrain, so there are a few ups and downs but they tend to be short and steep (10-15m at a time max).
Race went OK. By the road crossing (at ~5.3km) there was a big gap behind me, so I backed off a little (since scoring for the WMAC/Dion SS Series is by place) although I don't think I could've pushed hard enough to catch anyone ahead of me. Finished 53 out of 162. The field for this race tends to be tougher than last weekend's Saratoga race because it is a qualifier for some end of season event. Lots of food afterwards and a raffle (If they called my number I didn't hear it. I picked up something when they called Janet's number.)
Note: Elevation is probably bogus since the elevation model shows the course to be flat from about 1.2mi on. It's not flat.
4 x 0.25 miles at 7:03 pace with about 2 min recovery (0.2 miles @ ~9:40 pace). After 1.25 mi warmup and followed by running until I hit 4 miles. Time to ease into some speed work.
