Orienteering race 1:33:21 intensity: (55 @1) + (16:12 @2) + (50:35 @3) + (25:39 @4) *** 10.32 km (9:03 / km) +236m 8:07 / km

Blue course at WCOC event at Five Ponds. Started from a different location which allowed use of the southeast portion of the map. Some very nice areas of woods and a nice day with temperatures in the 60's. Good course set by Jim H and Rich N. Straightline distance 8.0 km.

An OK run. Was sloppy on controls 3 and 4 (going faster than I was reading the map) and lost a few minutes on each. Got off line going to 13 and into an area shown as green on the map which wasn't green in the terrain. We had been told that the green didn't exist, but the green on the map made it very difficult to see any map detail. Relocated when I spotted a house which I didn't expect to see. Probably lost 8 - 9 minutes total.

Took a hard fall on the way to 9 which resulted in a bruise to my left knee and a brush burn on the inside of my right arm (hooked a small tree on the way down). Should be OK in a few days.

Red course at local EMPO event at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. Lots of trail running, mostly orange level controls and using locations which I had set as control points at earlier events. Kept the pace (and heartrate) pretty high since the navigation was straightforward. 60's and overcast. Straightline distance was 7.7 km. Ran quite close to a Canada goose sitting on a nest - he/she was not pleased.

In Pittsfield SF. A loop on the mountain bike trails in the flatter area and then a foray up the Lulu Brook trail. Nice day, 60's and partly sunny with enough breeze to keep the bugs at bay.

Hill intervals. 8 x ~260m with 10 - 15m climb. ~ 2 minute recovery coming back down the hill. On Richmond Rd. 5x uphill headed east, 3x up headed west. 1:06 - 1:08 for the hills (just under 7:00/mi pace). 45F and drizzly - good for running but quite a change from yesterday.

Easy trail run at Hand Hollow Conservation Area. Legs still a bit sore from the weekend. 70F with some breeze. Buggy (black flies) in the parking lot but OK in the woods.
