Walking 3:00:00 [1] 6.5 km (27:42 / km)

Went to Storm King Art Center after orienteering to get some culture. Most interesting sculptures were serpentine stone walls, one snaking around trees, another around boulders. Spectacular weather, sunny, dry, 70F.

Orienteering race 1:09:48 [3] *** 6.0 km (11:38 / km) +234m 9:44 / km

Green course at HVO local event at Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. A small, somewhat open area with lots of overgrown stuff at this time of year (unmown fields, barberry, other prickly stuff). Rocky underfoot. Some trails in the woods were hard to see or identify. Sometimes terrain features didn't show up where I expected them from the map (but that may have been me). Map is 1:5000 and I didn't adjust well, heading off the map for an excursion on the third control. Didn't relocate quickly and by the time I returned to the 2nd control over 15 min had passed. Paid attention better from then on and did OK. Didn't push at all since my right ankle is still tender (wore an Active Ankle). SL distance 4.6km.

Hiking 1:09:57 [1] 2.69 mi (26:00 / mi) +136m 22:28 / mi

At Basin Pond, a BNRC property east of Lee, MA. Nice area with many sizeable boulders (2-4m) and a well-built trail leading to Basin Pond.

Walking 12:49 [1] 0.52 mi (24:39 / mi) +31m 20:48 / mi

Strolled up the road from the parking area at Basin Pond to the trailhead for the Finerty Pond ATV trail in October Mountain SF. Trail looked OK but is probably mostly a road to the Pond. I'm sure the AT route which starts another half mile up the road is a nicer (although more strenuous) way to get to Finerty Pond.

Hiking 36:43 [1] 1.25 mi (29:22 / mi) +50m 26:07 / mi

Section hike of the AT from US Route 20 to the Mass Pike (and return). From the AT parking area on Rt. 20. Because we were in the area.

Walking 35:00 [1] 2.0 mi (17:30 / mi)
(injured)

A walk around the neighborhood. Legs still sore but functional. Apparently I tweaked my right ankle more than I thought during the Highlander as it is still puffy and sore. Also bashed a rock with the opposite side of that same ankle on the final stream crossing. At least the proximity of the two injuries makes icing efficient. Another day or two before I try running.

Hudson Highlander. Nice weather, good course, some atrocious orienteering. Course included an epic 4.5k first leg. All the orienteering sections were on Silvermine. Trail run was across the Palisades Parkway, starting at Anthony Wayne Rec Area and ending through an underpass under the Parkway to bring us back to Silvermine. Added a bonus ~3k to the trail run by missing a turn and then taking way too long to realize that not seeing streamers probably meant something. Arrgh. Stopped short on several controls on the second map, not adjusting to 1:15000 scale. Lost 10+ minutes on #2 and a few minutes on each of 4, 7, 8. Also lost a bit of time on 21, which may have cost me a place. I'm not sure we followed the best route on the long leg, but I was in a pack with some pretty competent orienteers, so was trusting them. Probably 26k straight line. Might count the climb later. Body survived but I'll be moving a little slower than usual for the next few days.
