Orienteering race 1:15:49 [4] *** 7.6 km (9:59 / km) +214m 8:45 / km
spiked:17/18c shoes: VJ Falcons 5

Red course at Thacher SP. Nice course set by Gabor comprised mostly of shortish legs, so middle-like. Woods are a bit junky, so I used trails where they were an option. Good run with only one big miss on #10 when I headed down a barely mapped reentrant rather than the more prominent one with the control in it. Went the wrong way trying to correct. Lost 3-4 minutes. OK on most of the other legs except for a few where I struggled to read the details on the less-than-optimally-printed map. A fine day weatherwise, though a bit warm as the temperature was near 80F. SL distance 5.7k.

Hike at Mud Pond Preserve in Nassau, NY (next to the landfill!). Interesting little piece of woods but kind of small. Many stone walls, rock piles and boulders. Also a few remnants of cars and other metal junk. Gorgeous day, sunny and upper 60's.

At Dyken Pond Env Ed Center, out in the Rensselaer Plateau somewhere (2.5 miles back a gravel road after turning off the only slightly more paved road). Nice set of trails, but a bit of a chore to get to. Tried to run on trails I haven't run on before and explored some of the western area south of the road (trail blazes got a bit vague at times). AOWN - spotted a fox (probably grey) galloping up the road as I crossed. Temps in the low 60's, a bit cooler than at home.
