Mad Dash Trail Race at Hamburg (PA) Reservoir. I did the “extreme” race, which was a 5 mile loop up past the reservoir to the top of the Blue Mountain ridge and back down (also a 5k and “family” 2.5k). The trail was pretty tame, being either gravel road or well-graded double wide track. Some rockiness and wetness, but nothing to really slow you down. The first 3.5k climbed about 210m at a steady grade, then about 1.5k flattish on the top of the ridge and the last 3k was all downhill back to the start. Pretty hard not to have a negative split with that course layout. Partly cloudy and in the low 60s during the race, so very nice. Won M60+ due to lack of competition and got a giant mug (32 oz!). 15th of about 30 overall. Winner was 33:xx. Lots of food available afterwards.

Wandering around the nature preserve along the Schuylkill River just south of the Kernsville Dam, looking at birds and stuff.

At Lehigh Valley Parkway from the covered bridge to the Fish Hatchery then downstream to the LVRR clubhouse and back to the covered bridge. Not really a rail trail but a wide gravel path, so similar. Some steeper grades than on a rail trail. Low 70s, sunny.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 15:50 intensity: (30 @1) + (3:29 @2) + (1:00 @3) + (6:57 @4) + (3:54 @5) *** 2.67 km (5:56 / km)

Sprint-O at FDR Park in South Philly. Course 1 - 2.2k, 10m. A city park with mostly open fields and paved trails but with several uncrossable lakes which were used to set up route choices. The lakes and marshes were very full, so paths and fields along their edges were often under water (ankle deep or more). Generally fast running, except when sloshing through water. Fun course by Sandy F. One small bobble on #4 when I headed south out of #3 rather than southwest. Partly cloudy and low 70s.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 16:08 intensity: (55 @3) + (11:41 @4) + (3:32 @5) *** 2.74 km (5:54 / km) +1m 5:53 / km

Course 2 at FDR Park. 2.4k, 10m. Hesitant to #2. I think the crossable fence NE of the control extends further to the west than shown on the map. I hopped over it when I could see the control, crossing the ditch just at the culvert. Also overshot the path leading to #7 but probably only lost 5 seconds.

Visited the compass/orienteering exhibit at the American Swedish Museum before I ran. Picked up three controls in the SE of the map afterwards (but drove close to them, so nothing loggable).
