Red course at Mountain Lakes at HVO event. 7.8k, 300m. Nice course set by Niels LO, designed for a combination chase/mass start, but I started later so was on my own for the whole course. Very open woods and not much undergrowth so quite fast (OK, there is some rock underfoot, so not super fast). Overcast and low 40s.

A good run. Failed to check my compass on the very short #2 leg and bashed unnecessarily through some barberry (and lost 30 seconds or so). Big error on 13-14 when I distracted myself getting a GU packet out, made a 90 degree error out of the control and then compounded it into a 180 when I tried to correct. Probably lost 5 minutes. Hit most of the rest cleanly, except for 17 when I dropped too low coming around the end of the hill.

Thanks to Niels, Geof and all the other HVO helpers who made it possible for us to play in these wonderful woods.

Brown course at WCOC WRE on Ansonia map. Middle distance course, 2.5k straight line. Excellent visibility and good runnability. Lots of well-mapped contour and rock detail. Overshot the first control - having trouble reading and interpreting the details in the last half of the leg. Over a minute lost. Stayed too far right going to 4 after climbing between the big cliffs. Figured it out but dropped almost a minute. First overall on Brown. Mostly sunny and upper 30s.

The almost last round of field checking for next Spring’s National Event (until Spring). Ran out of light so I still have three locations to check. They’re all fairly close and have probably been used previously so I don’t anticipate any issues. Plus, they are in a no hunting area so can be checked anytime. Sunny and upper 40s/low 50s - that’s pretty nice for November.

Nockamixon SP. Out to the gnomes via Eastern Woods, Jaywalk and South Park. Return on same section of South Park and then the other parts of Jaywalk and Eastern Woods. Plus an up and back on Haycock. Some muddy spots. Upper 50s.
