Red course at DVOA Quail Hill Scout Reservation event. 6.4k. 1:5000 map with rootstocks overmapped and constantly evolving vegetation, some of it scratchy. Significant (new?) deadfall, so a couple of trails were less distinct than mapped and traversing certain areas was occasionally a crapshoot. First time course setter so some control descriptions were non-conventional (but the courses were good). Low 70s, partly cloudy.
Failed to adjust to the vegetation and map scale early on but navigation was OK after I got into the right mind set. Overshot the first control and then undershot the third (where I was apparently looking for a rootstock where there was none mapped). Bad route choice and execution to control 6, weak attack point for 11, most of the rest was fine. Probably lost 8-10 minutes.

West End Regional Park. Low 60s, partly cloudy - quite nice. Checked out a trail I had not been on before (Bones), which resulted in a substantial climb on the return.
