Keeping this, but at level and time 0, for entertainment. Hiked in Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend NP. Apparently the GPS signal did not do well in a deep canyon. I did not go up and down the 1000'+ cliff multiple times, nor did I cross the Rio Grande and visit Mexico.

Hiking 1:50:00 [1] 2.5 mi (44:00 / mi) +100m 39:08 / mi

Guestimated distance and climb for hike in Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend NP. Impressive canyon with sheer cliffs over 1000' with Mexico on one side and the US on the other (and the Rio Grande River in the middle). Hiked up the canyon until the vertical walls met the water. Highish water in a side creek made it necessary to go up and over two spurs on both the out and back trips (rather than just one). Upper 70s with partial sun but shaded in the canyon.

Hiking 35:46 intensity: (2:48 @0) + (32:58 @1) 1.22 mi (29:19 / mi) +103m 23:14 / mi
ahr:81 max:104

Hike to the bottom of Burro Mesa Pouroff in Big Bend NP. When it rains, this is a 100' waterfall (and you wouldn't want to be where we walked).

SWSW Day 5 - Mini Rogaine on Cave Creek map. 20 controls ranging in value from 10 to 50 points spread across 5-6km^2 with a 3 hour time limit. Map is mostly computer generated (i.e. limited field checking). Lots of contour detail and significant hills. Mostly grassland but with plenty of scratchy stuff hidden in the grass. Being computer generated, there's lots of mappable stuff in the terrain which isn't shown on the map. Because of yesterday's rain, stream crossings were often knee deep. Temperatures in upper 40s, sunny but windy.

OK on navigation but big errors on 4 controls (including two 20-pointers where I was close but moved on without finding the flag due to time pressure). Control order: 113-124-125-136-147-134-132-152-121-138-(128)-146-120-154-133-111-130-(123). Finished with just over a minute to spare. 9th overall with 460 of a possible 550 points.

SWSW Day 4 - Training course at Ironwood. More desert but much more runnable. Flattish area with lots of subtle drainages as the contour features. Course was 5.9k straight line. Two big errors (6 and 8), two smaller errors (1 and 13) , totaling about 15 minutes. Upper 50s, partly cloudy with rain coming in as we left.

SWSW Day 3 - Cholla Chaser on the new (in progress) Colossal Cave map. Mass start race with handicapping. The race starts with a mini-score-O where your age and gender determine how many controls (from 1 to 7) you need to get. Then everyone returned to the start point to do a 6 control point-to-point course. Terrain was quite rugged with rockiness underfoot and lots of scratchy desert vegetation. Overcast, mid-50s.

I needed to get three controls in the initial section - two of which I significantly screwed up. Was generally with others in the point-to-point section as we each tried to choose optimum micro routes through the vegetation. About 20th overall. So far have removed about 40 small pokey things which were stuck in me.
