Thursday Jun 30

trail run 1:11:38 [3]
orsay, much cooler (21?) today, wet too.

there were a couple of trees fallen over the last few days. storms have been taking their toll.

running a good bit faster than the last couple of times I ran this loop.

Tuesday Jun 28

trail run hills 36:29 [4]
orsay, one loop over 2, four under (1:38, 43, 57, 40)

friggin tired (more mentally than physically)

running in light rain, there is thunder and lightning every day these days...
Note
3hrs mapping in orsay, probably took 4 to draw it in ocad. i'm not very fast.

looks like over 150hrs work left at the very least.

Monday Jun 27

trail run 1:20:11 [2]
orsay loop
slowish, from 430; was going to read a map but instead thought about where to live. shorter faster tomorrow. need to catch up on sleep

Sunday Jun 26

trail run 54:17 [3]
St Rémy les Chevreuse, up and around onto the plateau and arrived in Bois de la Madeleine!! So if I move out here next september I'll be more or less living by a (small, not particularly exciting) orienteering map. Saw cows and horses and stuff, but no studio. Definitely not Paris!

got some climb in

Saturday Jun 25

running 1:10:00 [3] *
Parc Montsouris
Monte Livata
World Cup Final Orienteering, October 2005!!! Didn't navigate badly either!!

Looks like terrain to suit Americans, if any are interested in running...

Thursday Jun 23

trail run 44:04 [3]
orsay to and frombât 430

6 hill loops, about 5mins each. cooler after thunderstorm

Wednesday Jun 22

trail run 51:02 [3]
orsay, was going to ride exercise bike but gym was shut. instead did some easy hill loops, 3 longer ones

nicer day today, still hot but a little less humid.

Tuesday Jun 21

trail run 1:18:28 [3]
Orsay
Hot
HOT
with camelbak. didn't managed to drink the full gourd of water while running, so half might do for a race of similar duration.

Monday Jun 20

running 57:05 [3] *
Parc Montsouris
Rydbo map

Sunday Jun 19

orienteering race 1:17:24 [4] **** 8.7 km (8:54 / km)
La Mer de Sable
Poligny-Nemours

Nice place, pity about the weather... blue skies, heading on past 30 degrees as the day progressed.... scorcher. And much of the race wasn't under real forest and that which was yellow was sand... it was tough to keep moving out there... navigation was interesting too, enough to make me make a few mistakes, perhaps somewhat induced by the heat.
Makes me wonder why the hell I'm running the French 5days in 30 odd degree heat with no cover from the sun...

It appears I won, which is somewhat bemusing. I made mistakes, I didn't run fast, but no-one else was running wonderfully either and the elites weren't around. Passed AC after he made a couple of huge mistakes, he caught me again later on, both of us were a little sloppy, then I made a bigger mistake and he got away... what a slog, especially the run in on the hot sand... got a couple of blisters out there.

Saturday Jun 18

running 35:00 [3]
parc montsouris. hot and muggy.

didn't have much to eat today (yet!!)
walking around paris with my sis and a friend of hers last night, only got home sometime after 4

Friday Jun 17

trail run 1:17:49 [3]
orsay
run has got slightly shorter near the start to bypass an overgrown field... sweated lots today too, not even running hard...

Thursday Jun 16

other (exercise bike) 41 [3]
sweated me arse off for 41 minutes. decided not to give my feet a bashing today.

Wednesday Jun 15

trail run 41:00 [4] *
Orsay cotes, font romeu map ion hand

5 hill loops, first four uphills didn't come close to breaking 2 mins, last one may have set a new record in 1:26!! I have broken 1:30 before but...

sweated a lot, glasses may protect against insects but they also prevent evaporation.... hohum...

Tuesday Jun 14

trail run 1:18:35 [3]
orsay,
camelbak & insect glasses & watch & map & key and I felt a little ridiculous. Whatever happened to shorts and tshirt and a simple run... glasses are becoming essential though. And need to train a little with the camelbak if i'm going to survive the french five days... it isn't particularly annoying which is nice.

Monday Jun 13

running 46:43 [3] *
Parc Montsouris
Volvic map

Staring to feel a bit better again about the whole running thing.
Will take some time to get the navigation right...

Sunday Jun 12

orienteering race 21:50 [5]
Sprint Race,
1:3000 map which was perhaps a little excessive. Made 6 minutes of mistakes if that is possible. It was forest orienteering, moderately technical. I was running too fast...

trail run warm up/down 15:00 [3]
warmup/down - felt good out racing today even if didn't spend enough time readin the map

Saturday Jun 11

orienteering race 12:00 [5]
Sprint race in Warsaw, Ujasdow,

Nice place, but there wasn't enough technical orienteering, no route choice... no mistake mistakes, a couple of hesitations and maybe running on a couple of steeper bits of slopes... manual punching!!

no warm down, almost no warmup.
Up until 4.30 that morning, so not in the best of shape - didn't hurt my racing, just the before and after...

Friday Jun 10

running 45:00 [3]
Warsaw, from hotel along the drain... or stream... or whatever...

Tuesday Jun 7

running 39:13 [3]
early morning run (as is friday's) from Hotel Sokrates in Warsaw.
Schedule is busy with talks from 9-19h...

eating very well if nothing else!

Sunday Jun 5

running warm up/down 15:00 [3]
3km run to the start
orienteering race 1:55:09 [4]
desvres, near Boulogne sur Mer

Long horrible race. Had blisters on my heels already at the end of the warmup. The insoles are great most of the time...

Terrain was rough, not particularly interesting, quite a bit of undergrowth, and I was trailblazing as second starter on my course. Didn't have a particularly good run, even managed a spectacular five minute error on one control thinking i was on a different path...

hohum. put it down to good training to have done. grr

TG did 70something I think.

Saturday Jun 4

running warm up/down 15:00 [3]
warmup/down for sprint race
orienteering race 15:34 [5]
Boulogne sur Mer,
Old fortified town, one of the better sprint races around, really really great!!! Attention had to be paid to control descriptions, which I did, just misread one at the tenth losing almost a minute. One bad route choice, two I didn't see and the race is more than lost. (Already I wasn't running particularly fast).

TG ran 12 something and said he could have been almost a minute faster.

Really great sprint map. Have I said that already? Funny seeing people running to and fro on a bridge to a citadel looking for a control located 15m below :) some of them considered the moat...
trail run warm up/down 15:00 [3]
warm up for middle race
orienteering race 48:45 [5]
Forêt d'Ecault

Nice map, technical. Unfortunately with the laser-printing the almost omnipresent green hachure was slightly jagged rendering the map difficult to read while running.

Which isn't really my excuse for losing 8 minutes in the the first 5 or 6 controls to JM delaume. shite. Afterwards we ran well, a few mistakes but nothing horrendous. Well, I did start aiming for the 12th halfway to the 11th when I was leading the pack and pushing hard. And JM led us off the wrong way to another one, I corrected first... with SSmirnov managed to pull away two minutes on jm.

Really nice place, sort of. Don't know how TG ran it in 34 when there were no elephant tracks - as first out he was making them.

I never seem to learn that I have to slow down entering technical areas... aaaaghhhhhhh

Thursday Jun 2

trail run 41:14 [3] *
orsay, 3 côtes, still dead after last week. Hopefully I'll have some energy back before killing myself again this weekend :)
NOC long model map, yesterday was relay model

Wednesday Jun 1

trail run 1:25:00 [2]
Orsay,
Took a detour out by Gif to find a wing mirror to remove most of an insect from my eye. Bitch of an insect - seemed like a flying cross beteen an ant and a leech - hard and sticky, took some work to get it out.

Two days of rest were well earned, and spent walking around Oslo. Returned to PAris last night.
