Tuesday Mar 30

running 38:00 [3]
4 llaps cite
the knock to the knee on sunday forced me to stop early - i felt it from the start and every lap it got worse, which wasn't what i was expecting it to do. wanted to run 70+ mins... pain in foot is nearly gone. question is whether to run tomorrow or not. won't make the weekly quota if i don't, because the race on sunday is moderately impt, and i will be training saturday. hohum.

Sunday Mar 28

orienteering 45:00 [4] 7 km (6:26 / km)
Gres de Cernay - Relay
nice deciduous forest - brambles and ferns were not too vicious at this time of year - beautiful sunshine again today.

made a couple of directional errors early on due to trying to run too fast, i suppose... shouldn't have made them though, or at least should have corrected faster...

didn't do the rough spur-re-entrant part of the course well at all. bad route choices, bad execution. MM and ACox ran 41odd, Fvannier 40odd.
forest run 20:00 [2]
warm up plus fifteen minute post-race jog. branch hit my knee pretty hard during the race... stiffened up after and hurt during the jog...
sore the rest of the day and tender, slightly stiff tomorrow(!)

Saturday Mar 27

orienteering 1:20:00 [3]
training gorges de franchard/rocher salamandre with Anthony and Matthias.

4 minute warm-up, 35 minutes putting out controls, 25 minutes doing AC's technical course, 30+(?) running MM's direction training (ie compass work without compass)

lovely day, fun stuff. should probably have gone for a run after - wasn't orienteering fluidly nor at race pace... tired enough though at the end. need to get more fitness training in.

Thursday Mar 25

running 41:07 [4]
llaps of cite

.56
8.25, 7.42,
7,37, 7.47,
7.47,
.52

Wednesday Mar 24

running 1:39:48 [2]
10 llaps cite
timed every second in the middle
foot still sorer
.45. 9.16
19.07. 19.38
19.46. 20.32
9.41. 1.03
seems like i was getting progressively slower. ran the last one deliberately a bit less slow. nice run. shame about the foot.

Tuesday Mar 23

Note
foot starting to piss me off. long run tomorrow perhaps and see whether it gets worse. if so then i'll have to look for an exercise bike grrrrrrrrrrr

Sunday Mar 21

running 10:00 [2]
warm up run w matthias
orienteering 1:13:42 [4] 10.1 km (7:18 / km) +300m 6:21 / km
IR at Nemours. Girsch ran 58:26 i think, Renqrd would probqbly hqve done at leaast five faster...

6.3 minute mistake at the 6th control. Partly the fault of the map (I say)... could have been third... could have beaten matthias who caught and passed me at the 6th having started a minute after... only finished half a minute ahead of him which puts him 33 seconds faster than me...

if ifs and ands were pots and pans....

foot is still tender... tired from friday night...

Saturday Mar 20

running 52:00 [2]
5 llaps montsouris. gentle. tender foot. sort of hung over after drinking 'til after 4 this morning

Thursday Mar 18

running 56:25 [4]
7 llaps of montsouris
0.52 to the start
9.00 warm-up llap
7.23 fastish, 7.22 fastish
7.19 fastish, 7.22 fastish
7.06 fast!
9.56 warm down back to the ranch

not a bad session. didn't feel bad running it, and could have done more, but don't want to overdo things just yet.
front of the ball of my right foot is tender (since wednesday), and I don't know why.

Wednesday Mar 17

running 56:00 [3]
5 laps montsouris, 8-9am!!

sun was kind of up, but hazy...
... 22 degrees celsius here cet apres-midi

Monday Mar 15

running 45:00 [3]
4 lap smontsouris this morning. tired.

Sunday Mar 14

orienteering 1:21:06 [5] 9.42 km (8:37 / km) +260m 7:34 / km
Grotte Beatrix
winner 81.06 :) Mr Cox was second with 85.30
Only two fastest splits bar the run in, but led from the sixth control. Perhaps I'm designed for classic rather than short.
Held up reasonably well on the fitness front, but there's room for improvement.
Lost 2-2.5 minutes at the 21st... apart from that a cleanish run, although splits say superman would have done it a hell of a lot faster.

Fabrice V was winning the VTTO

forest run 36:00 [2]
post-race jog with Anthony
a bit of climb, and maybe five or ten minutes off-track. fontainebleau is wonderful in the sunshine.

bloody tired afterwards. hangover later on.

Saturday Mar 13

running 1:18:00 [3]
7 laps of montsouris, plus a little to throw my sweatshirt in my window. did some bits reasonably fast

weather was nice - almost sunny and warmer too :)

have to start running over 5hrs per week regularly, or at least averaging thus

Thursday Mar 11

running 38:00 [3]
4 llaps of the cité

latish, tired before starting, not ready to run fast after the race the day before

Wednesday Mar 10

running 21:06 [5] 5.3 km (3:59 / km) +51m 3:48 / km
Cross country race orsay
don't know how much climb there was, but we ran up the hill from the river to bat 430 three times, probably over 70m

not the best preparation, running straight from tutorial to the gymnase, was at the toilet a minute before starting...
felt ok running, a bit of a stitch, and not entirely fresh. good fun, finished about 7th? behind STAPS people mostly... seemed to pace it well - well-tired afterwards (now)

PS (May 5th) 1st place 20:12, me 5th 21:04

Tuesday Mar 9

running 40:00 [3]
5 (i think) llaps of the cite, time is approx too :)

going at a decent pace... but there wasa marathon runner flying around out there... going substantially faster, interesting running stride - legs (and hips?) moved fast but there was no vertical motion of the torso... and it didn't change at all over the 40 minutes I was out there. not sure how he wouuld have coped in the mud on sunday :) fast bastard

Sunday Mar 7

orienteering 1:48:59 [5] 16.6 km (6:34 / km) +400m 5:52 / km
Nid d'Aigle, Montmorency, AC Beauchamp territory. I think distance and climb are about right but...
Mass start long distance interregionale
F Vannier 013900 or thereabouts
the group i was with up until around the 15th control came in around 1h43-44... they were fit... is my excuse... what is my excuse for not being fit though?

the last ten controls or so i ran on my own with any major problems...
before, the group i was with was a little fitter than me, but i made up a little time on alternative route choices/better execution (also lost time)

fun race. lost a couple of bits of my hands falling onto road, lost of blood but nothing too deep. it was wet and muddy and marshy and slippy out there... really physical - not west of ireland but nearly at times... and there were a good few saplings too... didn't feel like the vegetation was well mapped.

Addendum:
Yep, only 15 seconds behind Vannier (and maybe 25-30 behind the then leader) at the 14th control. 14->15 was the long leg along the muddy path. Vannier moved up a gear at this point (or everyone else died), suddenly putting in fastest split after fastest split.
i had two fastest splits, 8 and 14. after the fourteenth (57 minutes) i was noticeably slower.

s'pose i need more long distance training. still, may also mean i shouldn't be too far off the pace on a stndard lifco event (even if vannier was taking it easy for the first half)

very tired yesterday, perhaps not immediately after the race, but it did kick in. torsal muscles (along with several otehrs) are a bit on the stiff side today. Need some upper body training too if i'm to go running in swamps.

Saturday Mar 6

running 30:00 [2]
3 llaps cite
bad cold... long race tomorrow should be fun...

guh

Friday Mar 5

Note
cold is getting worse!

Thursday Mar 4

running 57:00 [3]
5 laps montsouris. morning run. tired.

Wednesday Mar 3

running 40:00 [2]
4 llaps cite. tired. half dead. throat is at me a bit with the beginnings of a cold.
got back from college around 7pm. lay on bed for a while "thinking"... run started at five to nine.

walked loads on Monday with Mary, could feel sunday's run in my legs... she left today. (She was also my excuse for not running yesterday)
