Sunday Jan 30

orienteering 2:27:04 [4] 13.35 km (11:01 / km)
spiked:12/33c
French Selecs
La Couvertoirade (Millau)

Map bigger and better than yesterday, now at 1:10 instead of 1:7,5

temperature -9celsius leaving the hotel in the morning, windy, freezing and sunny out at the race. cold starting off, very cold... ran to zone of first control before reading the map properly and so lost a minute or three.

right thigh gave quite a bit of bother, not intense except on descents but alwas there making runnning and thinking difficult. hopefully that is why i fucked around so much. sitll, very happy to have run the race, most enjoyable. made one awful mistake late on when I knew was making the mistake and decided to continue making it, spa that i am. lost 8minutes like htat. I think I noticeably deteriorated after about an hour (maybe a bit less) into the race.

TG was an hour faster in 1:26:06

Saturday Jan 29

orienteering 19:28 [4] 2.5 km (7:47 / km)
spiked:6/12c
French Selection Races, Plateau de Larzac, Aveyron.
Nant, Sprint.

cold. still not back in shape apparently. got stuck in veg on the way to the second control. couple of other mistakes and a hesitation or three, not too good.

winner (not TG!!!) nicoGirsch 1429
orienteering 47:22 [4] 5.3 km (8:56 / km)
spiked:12/23c
French Selecs;
La Couvertoirade (Caylar/Aveyron)
Middle distance

Fantastic map/area. started quite well, then fifth control went a little off and jumping down a falaise into the control i bashed my thigh - well bruised. next control the flag had disappeared so i got confused and lost 100 secs. a proper mistake at teh 16th and a couple of small problems elsewhere and fitness and runnign problems too - descents were difficult. also another fall, less painful but wuite bloody :)
should have been 5 minutes faster easily??

TG won in 31:55

Thursday Jan 27

trail run 1:13:30 [3]
orsay, from sunset to late dusk... nice run... ran a little fast for bits of it. mud is still frozen unfortunately

legs...
trail run 59:22 [2]
orsay, dusk to dark.

frozen mud. not a whole lot of fun. first time wearing trimtex bots out training - really much more comfortable...

Tuesday Jan 25

running 8:00 [3]
stretching class warm-up
stretching 42 [2]
class, it started late so a bit less timwise than usual. not sure yet whether it's starting to pay off in terls of increased flexibility.

Monday Jan 24

running 47:47 [2]
parc montsouris for 26, then ten minutes of stretching inside followed by another twenty minutes in the cité

reading text (this is possible) and mt aiveu map from yesterday. time was lost, much due to lack of fitness

Sunday Jan 23

forest run 8:00 [2]
warm-up and down 5/3
orienteering 1:02:30 [5] 9.3 km (6:43 / km)
Mt Aiveu,

less than two minutes of errors I think/hope. Haven't done race analysis yet. Ran about as well as I could considering what my training has been recently - no fast running training to speak of, little terrain running and little or no torsal/core strength work.... this needs to be remedied.

Beaten soundly by NicoGirsch - 52, BibiV 53, Benoît 55, JM 57 Stoussaint 59

Friday Jan 21

running 1:42:20 [3]
parc de sceaux. in two parts with a bit of stretching in after about an hour's running.

nice day

Wednesday Jan 19

running 47:44 [3]
cite

couple of sprints in the middle...

need i repeat that the right knee still ain't correct?

Monday Jan 17

running 38:51 [3]
a bit faster than recently, still not up to early winter speed.

a one-hour run in orsay with map in hand was foregone in favour of an evening run at the cité due to RER B delays this morning :(

stretched afterwards!

Sunday Jan 16

forest run 41:00 [2]
Edge of Fontainebleau to the Salamandre map. Guessed wrong - the start was on the south end of the map.

with severeal kilos on my back
orienteering 1:43:58 [3] 10 km (10:24 / km)
Rocher de la Salamandre

In line with general tiredness and lack of mmotivation and lack of confidence in legs, took it quite easy. Wasn't even dressed in race gear. Very much a training run. Needed it too, map reading wasn't 100%... although i think the mapping was a little strange in places...
Again, at less than race pace concentration is off a bit...

must get back into a routine... everything is suffering at the moment.

Winner (mass-start) ran 72

Saturday Jan 15

running 56:00 [2]
cité

wasted today in general

missed the RER that would take me to the station to catch a train to go O training by 20 seconds... DOH... then didn't do much afterwards

followed by 30-40 minutes of stretching. good idea!!

Thursday Jan 13

orienteering 47:35 [5] 7.7 km (6:11 / km)
spiked:18/22c
Le Moulin à Renard
Crifcou
near gare de St Cyr

not too technical. no mistake of over 20 seconds. nice day. legs not right. i wonder what the problem is...
forest run 15:00 [2]
5 minutes warm up and 15 collecting controls afterwards

Wednesday Jan 12

Note
al little strength work. stilll getting foot shocks so not running (or walking much) today.

Tuesday Jan 11

running 9:00 [2]
warm-up for stretching

i wonder have i problems in my foot muscles - slight tear perhaps... getting wee shocks when walking down stairs for example... nothing serious i think. need another day to recover from the weekend. short run tomorrow perhaps before crifcou thursday and maybe two days of o this weekend.
stretching 50 [1]
class. heloped recovery. hope i haven't overstretched left ham...

Monday Jan 10

trail run 1:18:00 [3]
fontainebleau

after killling myself trying to ski the last couple of days i thought i'd ease myself back in with a run in the woods... rickety ain't the word :)

sandra provided transport back to the real world - well, paris - afterwards

Sunday Jan 9

Note
Chapelle des Bois, XC skiing

better today, 9km in the morning in a bit under 2 hours, 6 in the afternoon in one and a little.

Only fell maybe five times today!! still nowhere near competent. only fall of the afternoon was preceded by a big long descent with turns and all, very chuffed with myself for taking it nicely etc, right until the sign saying steep descent, feel free to remove skis... so i went down very fast and the corner at the bottom welcomed me with open arms :)

sore bits all over my body incl foot muscles, abs, back, arms, arse...

Saturday Jan 8

Note
juras - chapelle des bois
XC skiing supposedly. spent most of the time on my ass. the whole balance thing takes a bit of getting used to.

5.5km in the morning, 3.5 afternoon. Shattered by lunchtime.

Tuesday Jan 4

trail run 57:45 [3]
orsay
first real run in just over two weeks. still a bit rickety. that iliotibial band thing (i believe that's what i was worried about) doesn't seem to have changed at all over the two weeks so i'm going to keep training easy for the netx while (still running races) and start stretching with some of the new it band stretches i've found.

hopefully i can improve on last year's 260 hours of running if i take it sensibly. stretching, leg squats, core strength will be needed too

Saturday Jan 1

running 30 [3]
from clothes to sea and back again!

Dugort beach......... inbetween hail showers with strong breeze... just the way to start the year :)

walked up to the lookout in keem yesterday.
Note
went for three beach walks in waterford (5-6hours total) before christmas, and two walks in the galtees on either side of the 25th too. plus a bit of walking in achill... not being a complete vegetable.
