Wednesday May 31

trail run 1:12:23 [3]
orsay, longer loop, haven't done it in ages... rain put off a trip to 'bleau...

Tuesday May 30

trail run 1:02:50 [3]
chateau de meridon etc; easy going most of the time, but went fast as poss for a couple of minutes on teh way back, really felt like i was motoring, faster than i'd run in a while... but all is subjective. if there's something to it, it's possibly JAM's leg exercises

Sunday May 28

orienteering race 2:24:30 [4] **** 15.4 km (9:23 / km)
77c
Larchant, la 77

organised by jrora and cdco77 on one of the most fun maps in the region. great stuff, enjoyed it lots even if i was knackered halfway through... possibly because of the late evening jog the day before.

first mistake was control 3, went to it but didn't see it, nicely wedged... 14 more mistakes put me 30 minutes behind Fabrice Erdinger, and 1 behind Celine dion... still, got 20 euros and a suitcase as 3rd man :)

orienteering is great!!!

Saturday May 27

running 43:30 [2]
got home late, ate, later still went for a jog... chateau de la madeleine

Thursday May 25

running 45:54 [2]
laundry, chateau

Wednesday May 24

forest run 1:13:14 [3]
stremy, above house, across to the enxt bit of forest, got lost, came back :)

Tuesday May 23

running 1:36:30 [2]
train track run (actually came back by it too)

Sunday May 21

orienteering race 1:10:00 [4] **** 9 km (7:47 / km)
25c
domaine de sedieres
Championnats de France des Clubs
Division 2
Last leg - Depart en masse...
messed up controls nine and 13 and was on my own from then on... marshy place, pity it didn't count for anything. Last place, but there were enough mispunches among other teams that we don't get relegated.

Saturday May 20

orienteering race 1:00:00 [4] **** 6 km (10:00 / km)
20c
horsed this race up right royally. hopefully due to the jetlag. wking up at 3:45 am and not going back to sleep is not great physical or mental preparation for racing...

but it was deceptivley technical - spurs protruding into marshes and varied, sometimes low-vis, forest had me well lost on the way to the normally simple seond control. Although a large part of it was due to awful technique, running w/o knowing where i was going... oh well.
a couple of more mistakes in the rain on controls 1, 3, 4, 5 and the race was well lost, outside the top 60 i was...
running warm up/down 15:00 [3]
today and tomorrow

Friday May 19

running 44:23 [2]
stremy
tired

Thursday May 18

running 38:26 [3]
all these notes are being added 3 weeks later...

this one must have been up the hill from stremy and forest plateau

Sunday May 14

orienteering race 1:36:08 [4] ****
25c
BILLYGOAT
Macedonia State PArk, Kent, CT
US orienteering at its best... well, terrain was only reasonable, the the billygoat is special!!!

running with JohnF and Boris most of the way... John broke ahead on the 20th, didn't see him again...

Boris and I then bust ourselves trying to catch him... we didn't, I led by a couple of metres the last couple of controls and held on to it to win my first race on american soil....... and accomplish one of every self-respecting orienteer's lifetime goals... winning a goat!

Besides the orienteering, it was great to meet up with all the american irishrussianbyelorussianhaitianfinnish orienteers again.

Saturday May 13

orienteering race 27:30 [5] ****
11c
Billygoat sprints

nice courses, map a little strange (esp the very dark light green)
managed to mess them up badly, two mistakes on the first, one on the second... hohum... luckily not too important :(

running 46:37 [3]
Arrived in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a workshop/school on geometric function theory...
not having slept at all the previous night (andrew jackson's wedding party followed by airport wait followed by flights to Newark and then detroit) I decide to go for a run from the accommodation.

lovely Arboretum right beside the college residences, got lost in there for a while... nice weather...

Wednesday May 3

orienteering 1:16:10 [3]

not sure whether this really deserves to be called orienteering.... make is very old, mountain is lovely, weather was wet, fog was down, life is great, lake in the coum was peaceful...........................
