Thursday Aug 31

trail run 57:40 [2]
railway run

started at 9pm, on the way back i really couldn't see much. depressing to think that winter is approaching

Wednesday Aug 30

Note
after anal ysing some of my recent perfs, it seems that my fitness isn't good enough to concentrate for a full race. lapses arrive halfway through, so am upping the distances i run for a week or two; will have to taper (from not much) for WC in auvergne, but really need to get a lot more endurance, even for short races...

and as for speed. jaysus.

Wednesday Aug 23

trail run 1:00:00 [3]
via laundry (unsuccessful), so one third (almost) or roads.

just before coming back out of the woods, got accosted by a dog which started snapping at my heels. I shouted at the owner who was a good 50m away with a 2m leash...

he replied, as dog owners always do, not to worry, that the dog isn't nasty and that she just wanted to play. So I stopped running while me heels were still intact and started giving out to the owner, saying dogs like taht aren't nalways nice. He told me not to wave my hand about or I might get bitten.
- So the dog's not nice then?
- The dog is nice, but might bite you
- So it's not nice then?
- She's not dangerous.
- But she might bite?
- She bit some guy before, but that's because he moved his hand.
- So she's nasty then.
-She's not nasty.
- A dog that bites is nasty.
- She just wants to play.

and so on...
apologies to the dog owner and to myself tfor the bad translation from french and any misrepresentation, but that was the gist of the conversaton.

Friday Aug 18

running warm up/down 20:00 [3]
Kosice,
warming up (mostly) and down for the sprint race.

Felt like crap. Spent most of the morning on the toilet pouring out any sugary water I drank. Got empty before starting the jog and three paces in was sweating buckets.
Did a warm-up 7 control sprint course, some slow, a little fast.

drank a little more sugary water.
orienteering race 17:11 [5] *
spiked:18/21c
WUOC Sprint Race,
Kosice Old Town and Park

The occasion and the stomach problems added some interest to an otherwise uninspiring course.

Couldn't run fast enough - on all bar three controls i was almost exactly 11-12 seconds down per minute on the fastest.
I don't know whether I would have been much if any faster had I not been sick.

Afterwards I no longer had the scuts, but was seriously dehydrated and had to wait until evening before I managed to sweat again, despite overheating and having temperature swings. Felt crap.

Ended up lying in the next morning and missing the relays. Needed it to recover... Only started feeling close to better when I woke again around lunchtime.
