orienteering 1:55:49 [5]14.7 km (7:53 / km) +380m 6:59 / km
spiked:25/30c
Nationale - Toul near Nancy,
Plateau d'Ecrouves was the name of the map

one of my best races... really quite happy at the finish, although tired and cold - rained for the second half of the course. also fell on my left thigh around the fourteenth control and gave myself a dead leg - stiff afterwards...

most of it was on slopes or the edge of slopes so it was much easier technically for me than the day before. some route choices etc and a few small mistakes, but couldn't have hopd to do much better. only 5 minutes off fabrice and top ten (dr mispunched, tg absent, benoit cut short) in france... i think i lost five minutes max...

technical comments are on map. nearly fell into fortifications a couple of times, could have been nasty. sorry for not giving q more entertaining description to any readers out there :)

in any case, happy i can run and cope with simple orienteering at the same time. what a difference a year makes

ps francois gonon won in around 1h35!!!

Saturday Oct 9

running 10:00 [2]
warm up
orienteering 47:38 [5]6.9 km (6:54 / km)
spiked:11/20c
Nationale middle distance
Le Mordant, Toul

horsed up this one. flat forest with lots of veg change detail and a few point features. i'm really bad at this stuff. nice to see it was mapped reasonably well, which makesa change for this type of forest in france.

i think the winner (johann tinchant? DR?) ran 37 or thereabouts.

PS neglected to mention i got tested after the race. needed 4 litres+ of water and a couple of hours before managing to piss, then pissed every twenty minutes for the next ...
stupidly didn't get changed and eat before hanging around fr the 2 jhours so got very very cold (and hungry)

Thursday Oct 7

running 45:00 [3]
parc montsouris
a few laps plus test-running next week's sprint race. looks like winning time should be in the range of 10-11 minutes if they can handle the pressure

rest yesterday and tomorrow. two days orienteering this weekend and my knees still ain't right

Tuesday Oct 5

forest run 55:00 [3]
orsay, same as yesterday, but cut straight fro, the gate to the gym...

Monday Oct 4

forest run 1:02:00 [2]
orsay run, gentle like last week's but with a bit added on - back down the way i come up by bat 336...
