orienteering race 1:17:00 [2] *** 6.0 km (12:50 / km)
14c

grotte beatrix
nighto
small leds lamp
didn't have a whole lot of fun. rained all day so the ground was sodden and the rocks were slippy. lost ten minutes on 5th&6th controls. 5th i was almost at the ontrol but the hill was way rockier than i had pictured after looking behind a couple of blocks i went off to relocate for a while... 6th i was on the wrong spur.
Not any fun in those conditions with a frendl. can't run, can't plan, etc off trails... dangerous too...

orienteering (4834) 48:34 [4] **** 5.8 km (8:22 / km)

grotte beatrix

ran off the map at the first control... mapper had gotten lazy towards the end so only one crag was mapped on a slop full of rocks and boulders... lost a minute and a bit. at the 12th I was only a minute and a hlaf down on the leader (stephaneT) but then my concentration went. several thirty second mistakes/sloppinesses later and I was 6 minutes down. Guh.
Not fit enough to run two races fast??

Some bits of the course were really nice

orienteering race 19:49 [5] *** 2.7 km (7:20 / km)

grotte beatrix
Championnats regionaux de sprint

planning was a little shoddy for a sprint. pity they didn't make it a little more technical or have a little more accurate map.
Otherwise, not abd. beaten by almost three minutes. 5th overall... buf.

orienteering 43:40 [2]

bois d'aigrefoin
1:4000 near st-remy
horrible, fely hungry, tired... don't think it will have done my o-techinque any good at all. still, good to go out for a slog in terrain once in a while.

will be motivated for the races tomorrow (and to a lesser extent sunday!) sprint middle night normal and it's not even a french squad weekend :)

trail run 43:40 [2]

to and from map. half of it roadside, half of that on mud/grass

trail run warm up/down 12:00 [3]

Orsay XC race today, warmed up by doing a good few laps of the major hill on the course (only a short wee thing, but enough to give me an advantage!)

trail run race 21:10 [5] 5.45 km (3:53 / km) +60m 3:41 / km

XC
Cross de la faculté d'Orsay

First time ever to win a running race! Not overly exciting since I led from the beginning :) It had rained a fair bit so the course was a little muddy and slippy. My poor competitors were wearing road-running shoes, so from the start I had a few metres on them.

Was concerned about starting too fast, so got a bit worried when I was on my own, but on patches where footsteps could be heard people weren't far behind... and I felt ok... gave a few kicks on the downhills/muddy bits/hill just so as the others wouldn't think me tiring. One final acceleration coming to and running up the hill gave me a safe lead to coast into the finish with 10s to spare...

Nowhere near last year's time, set by some fast bastard, of just over 20 minutes (checked - 20:10 sunny,16 degrees!). Probably couldn't run that even in good conditions...

prize was Crédit Lyonnais Tshirt (ugg) plus PSUC shoe-bag (better!).

stomach hurts now... had warm water and some cake after the race before going to Cesfo for lunch... don't know what caused it. Also tired mentally... guh

not sure how much climb there was, probably a bit over 60m

took an Aydat map, only made it two controls and even then I made a mistake :(

bike 45 [3]

station compet station... shortcut on the way back

orienteering race 1:21:46 [4] *** 13.0 km (6:17 / km)
spiked:25/30c

Foret de Montmorency
Interregionale organised by AC Beauchamp

Nice day, nice people, nice race, nice result... orienteering was technically pretty straighforward after last weekend in auvergne. Thought I didn't make more than a minute of mistakes and a minute of hesitations in total when i finished. Looking at splits I could probably have gleaned about three minutes total. But I ran really really well...

Came second to Nico Girsch's 1:13:58

First time _racing_ against mortals this year in France - nice to see I'm at least as good as last year...
