orienteering 1:50:00 [1] 7 km (15:43 / km)
Larchant, partie nord

Prébalisant for a club race next week. Lovely place. Couple of distortions in the map up north... perhaps because the map was au 5000ème

Then jogging/walking/running for 2.2 km above la Dame Jouanne... tried doing it fairly cleanly, but also stopped to havea real think when I had trouble understanding the map, esp on the big rocky slopes near the big cliffs

Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday Apr 25

trail run 26:00 [2]
Orsay, after work.
gentle jog to remind the joints to heal, stretch the legs etc...
and to see what Garmin says about my long-lost hill loop I used to train on... more to come

Wednesday Apr 23

Note
Day off... omorrow might be too. Let the joints recover before another weekend of Bleau :)

Tuesday Apr 22

orienteering 40:00 [1] 2.5 km (16:00 / km)
Rocher des Demoiselles
Fontainebleau

What balls... chose this area as had a nice technical middle distance course on it... and I wanted a smooth control-picking exercise in a technical area...

but just spent time scratching my head thinking what balls the map was.
Gave up after four controls to go somewhere with a better map...

Met some people doing some interesting things that I can't write about in public...

orienteering 50:00 [2] **** 5 km (10:00 / km)

Rocher Salamandre
Fontainebleau

Went to the next map along where I did some real orienteering... slow but fun as the map made sense most of the time... the mapper had to do a lot of selection - sometimes being a distinctive boulder meant at least 8*8*8m ... but here it made sense.
It was great. I was a bit tired as by now it was after 3 and I hadn't eaten the biggest of breakfasts...

Monday Apr 21

orienteering 1:03:00 [2] **** 6.6 km (9:33 / km)
ahr:128 max:153 22c
Mer de Sable,
Poligny

Took advantage of staying in Villiers-sur-Grez to go for a wee spin down the other side of Nemours to one of my favourite maps in the region, complete with it's very own sea of sand.

I have memories of running in the place in May in blazing sunshine and temperatures well into the thirties; today was very temperate, maybe 15°... fine for jogging around in.

Took it v easy as my tendony thing is still a bit sore. It seems like it is better after jogging today than it was after racing yesterday.

Ran without a compass. Nice technical area, a good bit of interpretation to be done is places but the map is good.

Sunday Apr 20

orienteering race 1:00:05 [4] **** 9.5 km (6:19 / km)
ahr:172 max:190 spiked:18/26c
L'Homme Fossille
Fontainebleau

Circuit A (sans chemins)
Nice to be running a race in Bleau again, even if it wasn't the most technical. Doing it without paths made it a little more interesting, not sure that the map was quite good enough for it to be fair though... not that it was especially bad...

Lost time on:
3 - 20s - a little further right than necessary, but this to avoid darker green... mapping of veg here wasn't detailed
8 - almost 2 minutes, this control was nice. Run on a bearing into mid-green forest for 200m looking for semi-open land with a depression... the mid-green had perpendicular stripes of white through it with good visibility... and I spot a large open area to my left... since there aren't any others mapped, run up a stipe into it, have a scout around, nothing... didn't have the form-line topography it should have had either, so I guessed pretty quickly it wasn't there, but it would have been nice were it mapped... then going back to find the control I managed, but only because the forest became light green (unmapped) with good visibility... and in the end the semi-open was just forest... gah
9 - 10s, slightly left
19 - 1:30 control was just on the other side of the interesting (boulder-strewn) ridge... I'd like to go back and check whether the map was well-distorted here or If I was just stupid...
20 - 5s hesitations stupido
24 - 10s checking the other side of the wrong boulder... doh
26 - 20s being stupid...
C • Cheat! 2
trail run warm up/down 8:00 [1]
warmup to start
Note
tendon above left knee a little sore afterwards... don't think it's anything serious yet...
