There's a dobb missing on my Bolds after running in them twice. Are they the new Icebugs?

orienteering 3:30:00 [2] 17.0 km (12:21 / km)

Maastolenkki = long slow Sunday training.

20cm of snow and -8º, must be time to hit the woods. Today's clothing experiment consisted of orienteering socks inside new neoprene socks, orienteering knee-length pants outside nearly knee-length tights, grey McKinley thermal under O-top under light Craft jacket. And then as an afterthought my Trimtex sleeveless vest. On the hands, light silk gloves with multiple holes. On top, a buff.

The afterthought was an excellent idea, I had to unzip it for a while but was very grateful early and late on. The neoprene socks saved my life. Multiple times. Legs were mostly warm enough, towards the end my toes froze briefly. My hands were the weak point. Whenever the gloves got wet my hands froze, until the gloves froze properly again and the shell provided a little insulation. At two hours, we stopped to eat some snow and a little trail mix and after that my hands froze properly. I had to put them against my belly to defrost temporarily. At two hours thirty, I started to get worried about my hands (left hand was now sore) and contemplated quitting, but I removed the frozen gloves and my warmed my hands and put the gloves in my pocket, where the remained an icy blob. Running without gloves was actually fine, except when I had to hold onto things climbing cliffs, or stumbled into the snow. Everything else was quite pleasant. My exposed leg hair developed icicles which sometimes pulled, and I got a few ice cuts, but otherwise the legs were fine.

Orienteering was fine, taking turns again, and nice terrain. A couple of times the sunlight snuck between the trees to light up the hilltops, very pretty, but for the most part the sun was below the effective horizon.

Other participants in the complete madness were coach Henkka and star Eikka:

Pauliina was impressed with us, and especially our shoelaces. By the end we couldn't actually take more water into our shoes as they were blocks of ice.

My legs made enough of an impression...

... that I got invited back for sauna, which actually meant sauna followed by a wonderful dinner topped off with blueberry tart and ice-cream, at the lovely Heinaro household.

This has been a really quite fantastic day!
