Note

Carlingford on a sunny day with a dusting of snow is about as pretty as it gets.

Carlingford! And in the snow from just above the start triangle, it was really spectacular. No better place to be an orienteer!

It really was magical with an inch or two of snow and blades of ice growing out of the grass and fantabulous views, hitting the ridge was stunning. Plus the terrain is made for orienteering.

Thanks to Shane for the chauffeuring.

Night-O in Glendoo.

Crisp out, the heather and grass was smooth enough besides the cuttings. Light went to safety mode after the 6th control which was a bit disconcerting. It lasted till the end on low beam. More light would have made map-reading easier. Ass fairly kicked by the Shorts anyway.

running 35:00 [2]

black head, co. clare

Hopped from clint to clint, accosted some cows, avoided stepping in the grikes.

4 PM

running 45:00 [2]

Mullaghmore

Visited some swirly cliffs and some cows, then found two wild goats hiding in a patch of hazel. They had the biggest horns.

The marked trail led into a turlough. Oops.

Rainbow hostel to pier and back. First time here since a school trip aged 15(?), when I got sunburnt in 15 minutes waiting for the ferry to Inis MeƔin.

There were a couple of impressive limestone slabs on the pier that weren't there two days prior. After returning up off the pier, I looked back and saw a wave lap over the top. Oops.

Back to Crohane.

Weather was way less wild than I expected.

trail run 25:00 [2]

Up n down
4 PM

trail run 1:15:00 [3] 9.58 km (7:50 / km)

Not quite up to the Devil's Punchbowl. I was only wearing three layers on top, and started to get cold halfway up, and the wind was blowing and rain was driving, so I called a halt to the madness, or wussed out. The downhill was more fun, but still too windy to get warm.
Still managed to do 450m of climb.

Wondering what the tail end of the hurricane will bring...
