Tour des Dents du Midi
Part I
Picked up my fellow adventurers from Lausanne at 9.15, drove to above Choëx, parked at 1288m. Distance and climb is "
official", but perhaps counted with a dodgy gps.
Walked most of the 316m climb to the main trail at Chindonne, 1604m.
Jogged most of Chindonne-Mex
Dénivelée positive : 543 mètres (250?)
Dénivelée négative : 1018 mètres (750?)
Distance : 11,55 km
Snacked along the way, needless to say!
Lunched in Mex (1118), part assiette valaisanne, part croûte de fromage.
Dominik and Brandypants considered Mex photo-worthy.
Walked most of
Mex - Salanfe
Dénivelée positive : 1252 mètres (1100)
Dénivelée négative : 456 mètres (300)
Distance : 8.75 km
Judging by the topo map, this should be more like 1100m/300m.
The first half hour we were digesting, then it got steep up to Col du Jorat, (2212m)!
Mex was down to the right below the further ridge:
The auberge for the night was at Salanfe, just above the lake. Jesus, Dominik.
The light on the lake kept changing as we descended. Skinny-dipped, once there.
Dinner was soup, then beef stew with rice and légumes. ice-cream for dessert.
After dinner there was a lightning show. Storms weren't where we were, just all around. We took a stroll out onto the dam, metal railings. I did query this, but hey. While out there, there was a flash I felt with my hair. My mop couldn't stand up much more, but random Marion's...
After we got frazzled a second time, we headed back up to the refuge smartly. Somewhat scary. No idea whether the flash was very local, but it seemed so, and not big enough to go boom.
