Note

scratchy throat since last week has turned sore. I tried resting lots after the orienteering, but it wasn't enough.

Swiss National Race, Petit Risoux, other side of Lac de Joux.

Hammocked overnight, better sleep than any other night this week I reckon, despite the subzero temperatures. Good stars.

Nearly warmed up before taking the bus to the pre-start, where it began to rain. Sheltered in a cold tent until a few minutes before my start, leaving it a bit tight because, as some Ticinese said, it was at the limit of fun, and I was feeling a bit vulnerable to sickness. Then the start was further than I thought, so I missed mine and started 5+minutes late. Oops. Anyway, wasn't exactly planning on being competitive, nor even especially on finishing.

The woods were full of brashings which was somewhat shit. And the wet trees meant I was cold and cold the whole time. I unwisely didn't wear a thermal, just normal otop and buff. The buff did wonders. And yet, I was not miserable. I thought I would quit at 11 or 12 and jog back to the finish, but I couldn't persuade myself it wasn't fun. So I embarked on the looong leg with a smile and pondered life. 13-16 were fun, though I didn't understand something in the map near 16. There was a control in a pit/depression I couldn't identify, maybe it was under the circle.

Another wee mistake on the second last, plus a couple of early ones, but not too bad overall.

There must be a shortage of pleasant woods in Switzerland.

Drove straight home with heating on almost full and heated seats the whole way, not something I can usually stand. Then bed :)
