Running 30:00 [3] 8.6 km (3:29 / km)

Tempo on Madrid Rio. This felt much more difficult than it did last week. In fact the last 5 minutes my body essentially gave out. I'm not sure why exactly, but my legs also felt tired on my commute. There is a positive side though. This means that I am pushing my body to a physical limit. So if I back off a bit then improvement comes.

So my plan calls for an hour run tomorrow Friday . Instead I'll take a rest day tomorrow, a 30-40 minute run on Friday, and then the Moral Trail on Saturday to defend my title.

I've signed up for the 17k course with 1100 meters of climb and the vertical race, 2.4k with 340 meters of climb. So two lighter days will be quite nice.

Also, two tough things about tonight. There was an Atlético game, so I had to constantly dodge people. And I had to fight a strong head wind on the way back. No big deal though.

Running 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

10 minute warm up, 5 minute cool down.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

A bit later tonight, but it was worth it.

I got to do a reinterpretation of an old favorite. Casa de Campo with Kartapullautin. I was in such a rush I did the line in paint. It worked perfectly. This may sound bad, but I prefer this map to the 10 year old one.

Orienteering 20:00 [3] *** 3.0 km (6:40 / km) +250m 4:42 / km

Uphill climb with my first kartapullautin map! I didn't place the start in a very clear spot so I struggled a bit at the beginning. But once I got a feel for the map and for where I was it went very well. Also, my gps apparently freaked out on the track, but it came back to me. Clearings were perfect. The white was perfect. Green was really good. All the cliffs on the map were there, but there were some in the terrain that should have been on the map that weren't.

Overall pretty good for making the map in 40 minutes last night. Ever since I've started orienteering access to maps has been one of the most difficult parts of training. This software changes that A LOT. If I've got the LiDAR data, I can make a decent map. Thank you Jarkko!

Orienteering 15:00 [3] *** 3.3 km (4:33 / km)

Downhill to finish my Kpull run. I placed the finish on some cliffs at the bottom of the map. As it turns out those cliffs were houses. I decided not to jump the walls into their property and just called it an early finish.

Madrid League on Cabeza Mediana Norte

Ok race. The race wasn't wonderfully organized, but that doesn't take away from my mistakes.

Error time: 6:00

Errors:
-I consistently was too high or too low. I thought I would be able to maintain a constant contour, but apparently today that was too difficult.
-Controls were misplaced, flags were missing, vegetation had changed. All of which took me out of my focused zone.

Causes:
-Too high, too low. The terrain here is all reforestation. o it is a lot of terraces that seem to stay at the same height. I've since realized that they do change height, only after following them and realizing they've taken me off course.
-Like I said, those things took me out of my zone.

Solutions:
-Features, features, features. There are features around. Use them! Read yo map!
-There are loads of things that can take me out of my zone. I cannot spend time and energy worrying about them. I need to focus on my process and getting from one control to the next.

Map (terrible quality. I have to find a solution):
