Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

10 AM

Orienteering 31:36 [4] *** 5.2 km (6:05 / km) +140m 5:21 / km
spiked:24/27c

Middle at the Open O-Games (the World Cup public event)

Solid race. Antonio ran 29:5X. Andreu ran 28:XX. William Lind ran 25:56

Not many mistakes. Just running off bearing.

Not too terribly difficult because the trails helped reorient you fairly often.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

6 PM

Orienteering 43:00 [4] **** 5.4 km (7:58 / km) +220m 6:37 / km
spiked:20/22c

Evening training with Andreu and Antonio.

We did this as a series of 4 mass starts with 1-2 minute breaks in between. The 43 minute is the total is including the breaks.

Map:

Mass start
(1) #1-6, ~1km (~4:15) I won.
(2) #6-10, Antonio won.
(3) #10-16, I won.
(4) #16-Finish. Antonio won, but only beat me by a few seconds on the sprint into the finish.

It was interesting to do this exercise. I orienteered well and ran quickly. I was competitive. When I was talking about this with Ben I described the feeling as agressive, but he suggested it was probably more decisive in my process. I agree with that judgement. I saw what Andreu and Antonio were doing but I maintained by own course. Now I need to race like this in high-pressure scenarios.

If anyone reading my AP has any reflections on this, I'd be quite interested to hear them.

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

Warmup included 2:30 at high intensity on the warmup map.

Orienteering 14:30 [5] ** 3.5 km (4:09 / km) +15m 4:03 / km
spiked:22/23c

Sprint Quali at Round 1 of 2016 World Cup

Great race for me. I got caught by Anton Johansson (SWE) by nine and we ran together for the rest of it. He is quite a bit faster than I am, but I was navigating better than him. That's a first. Good confidence booster.

Error time: 0:14

Error:
-Throwing myself into the green on the way to two.

Causes:
-Didn't expect it to be that thick.

Solutions:
-Check green on model maps. And remember, "full speed, no mistakes."

Sprint B final at Round 1 of 2016 World Cup

Decent race. Legs were quite tired by the end. The area was great for sprints. Really, really fun and a great opportunity to get used to high pressure scenarios.

Error time: 0:58

Errors:
-Took slow, complicated routes to 4 and 5 which ultimately were easier to make mistakes on.

Causes:
-For number 4 I just didn't see the alleyway I ended up running down.
-For number 5, I didn't consider running on the sidewalk to the south.

Solutions:
-Full speed, no mistakes to the promised land.

Note

I didn't race as well as I know I can today in Poland. I'm not giving up, just gonna keep working harder & smarter at it!

Orienteering 57:03 [5] **** 6.5 km (8:47 / km) +240m 7:25 / km
spiked:22/27c

World Cup Middle in Wroclaw, Poland.

Not a very good race. Ultimately my nerves got the best of me.

Map:

Error time: 11:07

Errors:
-Going off bearing in the green.
-Not finding the control when right next to it.

Causes:
-For all of it: nerves and panic.

Solutions:
-Put myself in high pressure situations like this more. I know I can run a race like this much, much faster than what I did.

Note

I did race in Portugal this past weekend, I just haven't had time to update my log. I'm leaving for Poland tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll find time in the coming days. If not, see everyone next week!

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
